I had the dv2600 special edition (best buy) and I bought the dv2700 special edition from HP. the screen on the DV2700 is at least 20% less reflective and more brighter. but I had some problems with the clicking noises coming out from the left side (palm area). I've returned it for another one. The problem is the screen now looks exactly like the 2500 (more reflective an less brighter). I called HP to aske them if they are using different vendors for their LCD. They told me they can't reveal this information. Now, I am thinking to return this one and buy xps m1530.

How can I know who manufacture the LCD I have on my dv2700?
and is xps m1530 LCD is better?

    Thanks,

I am thinking about purchasing the same laptop. Can you post some hi-def pics of the laptop on all angles when you get it? Thanks.

And 1080 shipped is a good deal. How did you get that?

I just did a custom build with almost the same features and it turned out to be 1169 shipped after taxes.

I have the old dv1000 and its a great laptop.

Right click on my computer and select properties
open up device manager from list of tasks on the left
open up monitors in device manager
Click on details tab on top
hit the down arrow in property box and select hardware IDS

Thats it.. if your not sure plug the hardware IDS number in google and you should get an exact hit to what the manufacture is.

My dv6500t lists a lpldb which stands for LG phillips.

Personally, I don't like 14" screens since on average, they seem to have worse viewing angles.. especially vertical viewing angles. They sometimes seem darker as well. If you don't like HP's then you probably won't like Dell's any better. Generally speaking, Dell has a lot more complaints about crappy LCD's. I had a 1420 Dell with 14" screen and the first had a dark screen SEC samsung with horrible viewing angles and the second had a AUO that was grainy as hell.

To make my point further, even the Sony's CR 14" has crappola 14" screen with a pathetic viewing angle. For some reason, HP seems to get the best comments on their 14" screens. In fact, HP screens are generally regarded as being better then most.

So I suggest trying another HP if the 14" is something you want. But if you can except a little bigger size go for the dv6700t. They run cooler, and HP's 15" screens are almost always brilliant. I don't think there are any 14" LCD's that can match the viewing angles/brightness of a well made 15 inch.

As far as going with dell take a look at their forums. Lots of complaints about LCD's. But if your willing to step up to a 1530 then the HP 6700 is about the same size. I only recommend the 1530 if you want a faster GPU (8600gt). But the 1530 has suffered allot of build quality issues too. If the 8400m gs is good enough then I am sure you will love the 6700t. I know I really like my dv6500t which is almost the same thing.

One thing worth mentioning is if you enjoy listening to music like I do, the HP's built in altec lansing speakers are worlds better then whatever generic crap that dell uses. Be prepared to whip out the external speakers with dell.
