For those that are interested, there is a new BIOS release for the DV2700t series notebooks. BIOS F2.D Enhancements: “Fixes an intermittent issue where the video controller does not respond”. I have no idea whether this has to do with the Nvidia defect issue but in any case, it can be downloaded here:

Also, for those looking for more current Nvidia drivers for their 8400M GS cards, and would prefer to use those provided by HP, you can update the old 156.65 version that is posted for the Dv2700 series notebooks to a newer 175.88 version by downloading the Nvidia GeForce 9200M GS/9600M GT driver for the DV5t. The inf in the driver release includes support for the 8400M GS cards. It can be found here:

Driver Installation Note: I uninstalled the old 156.65 version first, rebooted, ran CCleaner rebooted, and the HP installer would not allow installation of the newer driver. You may or may not have the same issue. However, if you do, just unzip the file to a folder, do a manual install via Device Manager selecting either the 32 or 64 bit folder, and select the nvhm.inf. It will then provide a selection for the 8400M GS and install normally. It’s WHQL and works fine. I then delete all the Nvidia stuff from start-up but that’s a different topic….. :)

Yes, subvendor IDs located in the NVIDIA/HP 175.88 Driver INF shows that automatic setup installation is not possible. It can be done manually. The Microsoft Update Catalog website has 176.37 WHQL drivers that contain a generic INF that supports all GeForce M products. Sort by Last Updated, they can be found under the NVIDIA HD Audio Driver v1.0.0.30. Alternatively, you can also find the most recent NVIDIA graphics drivers at LaptopVideo2Go.

As for the dv2700t BIOS update, I don't think it is due to the NVIDIA problem that is currently being talked about. Then again, this new BIOS does fix an issue with the graphics controller - so it probably is a worthwhile update.
