    I just received my dv2700t on the 30th and sold it the next day - and this is not an HP-bashing post. The build quality was very good and the LCD was beautiful - but I did not know that HP had changed the ACPI "settings" (for the lack of a better term) in the BIOS. XP SP2 w/ slipstreamed ICHM8 drivers would load - but ONLY after hitting F7 to bypass ACPI. Once loaded - there were several key problems - I could not get audio to load (and I own, or have loaded XP, on a dv2000, dv6000, dv6200, dv6500, dv9000 and dv9408) so I have some experience with the dv series. Plus - the ACPI things like shutting down with turning off power - will not work (comes up with the screen saying its safe to turn off your computer :mad: ). I can't bash HP because it was a very nice system - and they make no claims that the dv2700 will run XP. The whole lesson cost me $150 - a great SFC in the next cubicle wanted a 14" laptop to replace his 4+ year old Compaq and he quickly bought it.

    To get the audio to work under xp you have to install the UAA bus driver from microsoft BEFORE you install the audio software. Same goes for the Modem.

    I did the same thing with my DV6000 with the xp slipstream sata drives.....been running for 9 months on xp.....zero issues.

    Greetings again - I'm at COB Speicher in Iraq & it took three weeks to get it so I'm sure I would have passed the 21 (or is it 30 day) rule on a return. Talked to the buyer last night - he's thrilled with it. I don't know too much about the ACPI/BIOS business that HP has started but its a show-stopper for me for future HP purchases.

    Hi,

    I got some problem to find drivers for the sound as well but finally i found and it works. have a look here :
    http://forum.touslesdrivers.com/reponses.php?v_code=1&v_message=797592&v_pm=4&v_pr=4

    Howover, I get as well the problem with ACPI (need to skip when you install, even if you force it in the ACPIEnable=1 value of windows install and even if you upgrade your bios).
    I have another soucy. Concerning the Wifi, drivers semms do be ok but it doesn't detect network and the boutton is often on the orange color.

    Maybe somebody have an idea :) ?

    If the button is orange, it means its disabled. Thats why it wont detect any networks.

    Well ok...but it's on enable position.
    So, how can I enable it :) ?

    Apparently you can force it with hp wireless assistant, but the program doesn"t start...

    Noibeu - Did you get your install to work to the point where Windows can actually shut-down the laptop?? Now you're making me start to regret selling it... :) The display was really beautiful on mine.

    No, ACPI is not installed, so I have to shut down manually. But that definitly not the worse ! I have not the baterry icon, battery life is about 1h under XP and when the battery is down, this time the PC shut down automaticly :)
    No ACPI is a critical problem for a laptop.

    But on Vista the Laptop is perfect....So don't regret you choice if you do'nt really need XP. My problem is I need XP (it's for the work...). I hope upgrade from HP, I don't now...

    is it not possible to install an older version of the bios to fix the ACPI problem?
    i have a dv2699 and i used the guide posted at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=165319 to downgrade my notebook to xp, and was successful. however, i upgraded back to vista for a while, and during this time, i went to the hp site and installed the new bios version available there. (F.25). after updating the bios, i am no longer able to install XP. it gives the same non-ACPI compliant error.
    i've tried looking everywhere but just cant seem to find the older version of the bios that originally came with the notebook (i'm not sure which version it was). would be really great if anyone here could help.

    It's on HP's site. Go to www.hp.com, click on "Software & Drivers Download" in the left column on the startpage. Enter your exact machine version, such as dv2699eo or dv2699ef or whatever you have. Click on Microsoft Windows Vista as operating system, scroll down to the BIOS section. Click on "Version" under the heading "Previous" in the third column. F.13 is the only version that will run XP with ACPI.

    just reverted back from the F.25 bios to the F.13 (many thanks to stureplan)

    then went on ahead and installed windows XP without any problems whatsoever. (many thanks to mujjuman)

    dont know if it'll work on the DV2700, though i dont see any reason why it wouldnt. i did all this on a dv2699ee.

    again, thank you stureplan and mujjuman

    I downgraded my new dv2700 using the original instructions. Prior to download BIOS was downgraded from F.25 to F.13 - I am not sure that this was necessary. SWSETUP directory from dv2700 was copied to external drive. I am also using Acromis True Image Software to backup the whole drive in between some steps:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/archive/index.php/t-214395.html - this is related to dv2700
    Acromis True Image Software
    1) Install XPsp2 (with SATA drivers)
    2) Install Chipset drivers (SP32555) and restart
    2a) Install Intel Matrix Strorage Manager and restart
    3) Install Graphics drivers (SP34044) and restart. Check device manager to verify graphics installed
    4) Install Ethernet drivers ( http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=175&pId=3)
    5) Install UAA
    sp32646 (1.00A6) - 2006-06-14 Can be found at:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3177437&lang=en
    Install. Windows will shut down
    ---- BAckup UAA with 1.00A6
    6) Install Conexant - SP34386. Ignore Errors.
    There will be two new folders in
    c:\SwSetup: sp34386 (This is for audio) and sp33839 (this is for modem)
    Conexant installer will give error that device not found. Ignore and proceed with the next steps.
    7) Install Alps touchpad driver
    .://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=ob-16536-1
    (downloaded sp25796)
    Do not reboot
    Install the Quicklaunch driver
    8) Install Intel Wireless
    (Network is not conncted + button should be off all the time to avoid wizards)
    Install also WWAN sp36889 (from original SWSETUP/Drivers/WWAN )
    9) Install bluetooth.
    Bluetooth Places appears on the desktop.
    HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth 2.0 Wireless Technology appears under Bluetooth Devices node
    10) Install hp wireless assistant. Reboot.
    11)Update HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth 2.0 Wireless Technology
    Right click, Update Driver
    Say "no, not at this time" for connecting to Windows Update
    Install from a list or specific location
    Don't search I will choose the driver to install
    C:\SwSetup\SP34842A\Win32\Drivers
    12) Check device manager, and install the webcam drivers (even though a webcam is already detected and installed.) I did it and there are no differences. There is no such thing in device manager as HPWebCam. There is only USB Video Device under Imaging Devices. (Since original instructions miss screanshots, not sure if this step is correctly performed)
    13)Do not reboot.
    Reinstall UAA drivers (SP32646) .
    UAA does not appear in the device manager
    Find PCI Device in the device manager and perform Upgrade Driver as:
    No, not this time -> install the software automatically.
    Wizards will pop up "New Hardware Found". Cancel out of them.
    Upgrade Audio and Modem manually as:
    Device Manager>Audio device on HD
    Right click, Update Driver
    Say "no, not at this time" for connecting to Windows Update
    Install from a list or specific location
    Don't search I will choose the driver to install
    In the list of common hardware types, scroll down and select Sound, Video, and Game controllers(Some simply choose "show all")
    Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk"
    Next...browse to C:\Swsetup\sp34386
    Choose the "inf" and ignore any protest from XP
    Repeat with Modem,directing to C:\swsetup\sp33839

    Reboot.
    Install Ricon driver.
    Reboot.
    At this point I got XP with functional Sound, Camera, Quick buttons, Camera and Ethernet and Wireless. I did not check if Bluetooth functions properly.

    THE ONLY THING THAT DOES NOT WORK is MICROPHONE. Neither internal (build-in) nor external.
    It's very important for me since I am heavy Skype user (btw, WebCam works perfectly, although it's still listed as USB Video Device)

    I would appreciate any advice for the non-working microphone. If it does not work I will be forced to return the notebook!
    Please help!

    whoa man congratulations on successfully installing Windows XP on your dv2700!!!!! i think the BIOS downgrade was definitely necessary... otherwise you would have ACPI problems. well, im waiting for atleast 2 more people to try this for the results and conclusion to be final.....

    as for your microphone issue, we all are having trouble with it.

    The first one is Conexant for AMD SP34386 - this is the one that I am using right now, works for sound and for the modem. But mic is dead

    I tried the one for Compaq SP35270 - it works for sound but mic is still dead.

    My internal mic is dead. But the external one is almost dead as well. Via Skype can hardly hear anything when very close to to it. I've read quite a few threads, but could not figure out if anybody overcame this problem (I guess this is Conexant with Venice :=(

    If I cannot solve it in the next few days - going to send the laptop back to HP, let them have fun with it!

    Try Conexant SmartAudio 221.Adds a Smart Audio icon in Control Panel for mic enhancement that may help.

    From Device Manager,right click "Audio Device on HD",choose Update driver,
    No to connect,
    Install from a list or specific location,
    Don't search I will choose the driver to install,
    In the list of common hardware types, scroll down and select Sound, Video, and Game controllers.
    Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".
    Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".Ignore XP when it complains.
    Reboot.

    Thanks for all your help. You are right. With ICH7 Chipset both internal and external mics were dead. With ICH8 Chipset and Conexant SmartAudio 221 I got Smart Audio in the Control Panel and Advanced options enabled for the mic properties.
    When set Samrt Audio to Viop options and with mic boost in advanced mic properties, internal mic records some noise and external mic is almost OK (some static and you need to sit close to the laptop).
    I am a heavy user of various Viop programs, and using internal mic is out of question for any coherent communications, and external mic is kind of OK but still annoying.
    I've returned the laptop to HP and will wait until they resolve the problems with Conexant drivers. BTW, mic has almost the same problems when used with Vista.

    I have a dv2700 and a friend told me that downgrading Bios will have secondary effects on my laptop, Anyone knows about this?

    second of all, HP has removed the File F.13 Bios from their Page.
    I mean, yo can see it, but at the downloading time, it says it has been removed.
    I noticed that the F.13 Bios is meant For AMD, wouldn't it be a problem? If not, could anyone rapidshare it?
    regarding this point

    "2) Install Chipset drivers (SP32555) and restart"
    XP has no CHipset driver or whatsoever, and the HP Chipset driver is called (sp36881.exe) :/
    anmd the point

    "6) Install Conexant - SP34386. Ignore Errors."
    HP has them as sp37817.exe

    "Reboot.
    Install Ricon driver." Ricon? is that ""Ricoh Media Card Reader Host Controller Driver"" or
    ""Ricoh 5-in-1 Card Reader Host Controller and Driver for Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)""
    ??
    there are some other like this ~~
    If anyone could rapidshare them, it would be great : 3

    I've read through this thread and a few others and I'm not getting many definite, useful answers. I just want some answers to get this done as I'm sure most other people who browse through this thread want.

    * What BIOS needs to be installed on a dv2700t to get past the "not fully ACPI compliant" error when installing Windows XP? Is it F.13; Yes or No?

    OK, this is the F.13 BIOS, but it says under compatibility:
    PRODUCT MODEL(S):
    Compaq Presario v3500 Notebook PC
    Compaq Presario V3500 Notebook PC
    HP Pavilion dv2500 Notebook PC

    * Does this include the dv2700t; Yes or No? (I assume almost certainly for this to be yes)
    * I am also going to assume that F.13 will run all Merom cores based on the information in this thread.

    Under the F.21 BIOS, HP has stated:
    Enhancements:
    Adds support for the new generation of Intel Core 2 Processor Family CPUs.

    I assume this means F.21 adds support for Penryn processors.
    * Does this mean that ONLY the F.21 and F.25 BIOS are fully Penryn compatible; Yes or No? (I assume almost certainly for this to be yes)
    * If ONLY F.21 and F.25 are Penryn compatible, will F.13 run Penryn at all; Yes or No?

    Based on the information given by HP, this thread, and my educated assumptions, I believe it to be that:
    * The dv2700t will install Windows XP under the following conditions (we're not sure about Penryn cores just yet):
    1. It has the F.13 BIOS installed.
    2. It is equipped with a Merom core processor.

    Thanks

    The F.13 BIOS included in my previous post does, indeed, work with the dv2700t with a Merom core processor. Specifically, mine has a t7250. Also, I was able to get to the first Windows XP installation screen without any ACPI errors. I didn't actually install XP just yet.

    However, during the downgrade, two device become unknown in Vista:
    - Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
    - Unknown device

    Also, another note is that the CPU fan is constantly on max. The air coming from it is normally warm, however; and CPU temps according to Notebook Hardware Control are around 46-48c; so in F.13, CPU fan throttling seems to be disabled.

    I also took the liberty of flashing with the other BIOS's just to get some more info:
    F.21 has fan throttling; causes ACPI error when installing XP
    F.25 has fan throttling; causes ACPI error when installing XP
    F.28 (my laptop's original BIOS) has fan throttling; causes ACPI error when installing XP

    Might someone have a BIOS in between F.13 and F.21 we can test?

    Someone mentioned earlier that HP would be releasing a future BIOS that will support installing of XP (and have fan throttling)? Is this a rumor or is it confirmed?

    I'm also going to mail HP about this, asking if they have a BIOS that will allow me to install XP and features fan throttling.

    I am curious about a couple of things, could someone who has installed XP successfully using the F .13 BIOS please check the device manager, expand "Computer", what does this say?

    Can the BIOS be upgraded from F .13 to ?? after a successful install of XP?

    No, this has been answered earlier. Windows XP checks for ACPI at every boot; you will have to stick with F.13

    Also, for anyone interested, you can use the BIOS flashing utility to flash a separate BIOS file. In any of the HP flashing packs, after it extracts to a folder in Program Files, navigate to that folder. Any of the packs work because they all include basically the same flashing utility; only the included BIOSes in the packs are different.

    For F.25, it would be:
    /Program Files/SP38252

    You will see two folders titled "winphlash" and "winphlash64" Depending on your processor, choose winphlash for 32-bit procs, and winphlash64 for 64-bit.

    Say you want to flash the backup BIOS that the flashing utility created when you ran it (You have to run the flashing pack first to create the backup). The BIOS.BAK should be in the folder already (if you chose the right folder).

    - You should have a BIOS.BAK in winphlash if you have a 32-bit proc
    - You should have a BIOS.BAK in winphlash64 if you have a 64-bit proc

    Rename it with extension .WPH so it becomes BIOS.WPH.

    You will see PHLASH.cfg inside the folder - you will then need to edit this:

    [Main]
    Shutdown=2
    FormatVersion=2
    UpdateFlags=800802
    UserFlags=800000
    UserMask=d121a4
    PSIFlags=60
    UserMode=ffffffff
    RetryCount=3
    UpdateMode=3
    ImageFile=BIOS.WPH
    BackupFile=BIOS.BAK

    Edit the line "ImageFile" to the name of your BIOS. You can use any BIOS name with extension .WPH here; BIOS.WPH was just used as a reference since I am using the example of flashing your backup BIOS.

    I actually experimented with this on my machine, and it works fine. I flashed from F.13 back to my factory BIOS which was F.28. No additional steps need to be done :)

    I can't find where it has been answered earlier as to if the BIOS can be upgraded after installing XP. Could you point me to this please?

    What I'm finding is that an ACPI error occurs when trying to install XP with a BIOS above F.13 on some models.

    As you are aware but maybe not everybody, by downgrading the BIOS some may be giving up more than others. This is what I found at the HP site and I don't know, but is their description complete, maybe more?

    F.21 BIOS
    Fixes:
    Fixes issue where CPU name strings for Intel Pentium Dual-Core Mobile Processor T2310 and T2330 CPUs are incorrect.

    Enhancements:
    Improves earphone audio quality.
    Adds support for a new HP Remote Controller.
    Adds support for the new generation of Intel Core 2 Processor Family CPUs.
    Adds support for HP Remote Controller "Display switch" button.
    Reduces power consumption when notebook is in Standby mode.

    F.25 BIOS
    Enhancements:
    Improves temperature protection method for Intel Penryn Processors.
    Adds support for the Hynix VRAM Module.

    ^ i agree with glatzfront.

    by downgrading your BIOS, you are losing something important. some people will lose more than others.... like those with new remotes, or with the newer processors, and better fan control.

    is it worth it? that depends on the user.

    Sorry, this was an issue explained in a similar thread. I also confirm this, myself. When I upgraded back from F.13 to F.28, restart on every boot when trying to boot XP. You cannot install XP with F.13 and expect it to run under F.21, F.25 or otherwise.

    ...Mujjuman, what was the point at all of making that last post? To raise your post count?

    Just to clarify for anyone who doesn't know when flashing to F.13:
    - Quickplay becomes disabled
    - Remote control support is disabled
    - Modem becomes disabled (who cares)
    - You will not be able to run a Penryn processor
    - Fan speed throttling is disabled

    Also, I tried using SpeedFan and it will not detect the laptop's CPU fan.

    We also have no idea about the BIOSes in between F.13 and F.21. If anyone has BIOS versions F.14, F.15, F.16, F.17, F.18, F.19, F.20 please message back about how your system runs. This is, of course, assuming that laptops ever shipped with these BIOS versions. It's pretty safe to assume that no laptop shipped with F.13 because of its numerous issues, so it's quite unlikely that anyone has a laptop with any BIOS in between F.13 and F.21... but who knows?

    Also, back from my adventure with HP Total Crap support, this is the message that they sent me. I guess this is the next thing to try:

    Finally, you would like to install the Windows XP Operating System on your notebook and their is no option available in the BIOS to disable the feature of SATA Hard Drive.

    I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to you with Windows Vista Operating System.

    I would like to inform you that, you can install the Windows XP Operating System on your notebook once you disable Native SATA Support. As the Native SATA Support disable option is not available in BIOS, you need to manually disable Native SATA Support. To disable Native SATA Support in BIOS, you need to make use of USB Floppy Drive. For this, please refer to the below website and also you can download the related drivers for disabling the SATA option on the BIOS. Also, perform the steps provided in the below Web site:

    == Intel SATA AHCI Controller Driver:
