Does anyone have this laptop? If so, how would you rate it in performance and construction?
Anyone know where to get it cheapest in the UK, either retail or online, doesn't matter? The cheapest I've found is ( http://www.laptopsandpcs.co.uk/Shop/PCs_and_Displays/Laptops/HP/15979_HP_Pavilion_DV2799EA.html)
How long would you say this model is going to be around before it's superceded? I'm afraid I'm only used to Thinkpad product cycles.
A few more general questions, or points that need clarifying. Can this take the 12-cell battery?
Can you apply for the 2-year warranty extension towards the end of the standard 1-year warranty? Also do you need proof of purchase or anything like that?
Thank-you, I'm new to HP laptops and already I can see that their repair service isn't particularly good. However they build aesthetically pleasing and sturdy looking machines for a good price.

Performance - (depends on what specs you get) Performance will hindered with all the bloatware installed out-of-the box.
Construction - i would give it a near 8 out of 10. It isnt as solid as bussiness notebooks but its good enough for my standards
Design and looks - 10/10. HP leads the way at this.
Yes a 12cell battery will work, it will stick out though which is sorta good.
You can apply for extended warranty plan aslong as your standard warranty is still active. You probably will need proof of purchase (i cant remember what i did)
Read the reviews in this site if you want more info.. -
I've seen a lot of complaints about the bloatware already, hence the clean install thread - i'd imagine i'd be using that information.
The 12-cell is good news as the 14.1'' Thinkpads at the moment only have 7-cell and the option of extra battery life is always welcome.
I'm asking about the warranty as i'm finding that it might be cheapest to get it from ebay.
Thanks for your help, i'll probably purchase in a few months but since Penryns have just really started coming out and the same can be said for this model, then i don't think it'll get outdated.
Thanks again. -
I'd be carrying it around in a backpack against books so it's likely that it will receive quite a bit of pressure. -

I've read your review, thank-you, it was very insightful.
I think now I'll decide whether to get this or wait for the dv3000 in Europe, although this seems to have better specs. -

Yeah that happens but should not affect you unless you intentionally press it. I say that because I had to do that to write this post! lol

Ok, thank-you both of you, I was just worried about it as it's not a problem I've come across before with Thinkpads as they have magnesium frames.
