Im looking to get myself a smaller laptop to take around with me. I have at home a g50v right now and love it but it’s just too big to take with me everywhere. I like both of these laptops but can’t decide which one I like better. I see some were saying that they had a 30% coupon for the dv3t which would make it the same price or less as the dv2z. Help.

I like them both. What do you all think? I can’t be the only one suck between these to am I?

I was struggling with the same decision but I think I'm going to go with the dv3. It's got a better processor (especially if you upgrade) and Bluetooth and I think a longer-lasting battery. Plus the fingerprint reader, if you're into that (assuming it works well, I hope it does).

If you live near New York City both P.C. Richard and Son and J&R Computer World have both models on the floor, you can compare the size and weight etc. I thought the keyboard on the dv2 was a *little* cramped, but of course it was lighter and smaller (almost nothing compared to most notebooks). For me it came down to which was a bigger issue, having a smaller one to carry around or the bigger screen and features once I arrive at wherever I'm going? I figure I spend more time on the computer on a desk than in an airport, train, etc.

I agree with computer16433. It really depends on what you are looking for in a laptop. Both the dv3t and the dv2z are in a similar category, but are slightly different. I opted for and ordered the dv2z and I'll these are the four main reasons.
    1. Light and portable. Even thought the dv3 isn't a lot bigger, it can make a substantial difference if you are using a side carry bag and walking/travelling quite a bit. I will be carrying this every day, so that plays in quite a bit.

    2. Quality. The review on notebookreview.com by Jerry Jackson and the subsequent thread based off that review reveals the fact that HP has put some thought and workmanship into the dv2z. In the thread Jackson says that the quality of the chassis and the layout is one of the best he has seen from HP. He goes so far as to describe it as a luxury product (like the Dell Adamo), but at an affordable cost.

    3. Looks. Honestly, the dv2 is just better looking than the dv3. Not that the dv3 is ugly, but dv2's slim lines make it one of the best looking laptops on the market.

    4. Price. I was able to 30% off and therefore got the dv2z with the Neo Turion X2, 320 GIG HD, 4 GIG RAM, Bluetooth, and external DVD for $735 tax. That is a good deal to get the quality product I mentioned above.

In any case, I hope that’s a little bit of help, but it’s just my view.

For performance, you'd want to go with the Dv3t as the Dv2z is a bit on the sluggish side. If you're going to do a lot of burning CDs & DVDs, a built-in optical drive is handy.
