Problem: I have my computer on a riser(no fan) to stay cool, decided to pull it out for a quick web surf when I hear the fans go on full possibly after 45 min of use without the riser. I open HWM and this is what I saw....(max temps)

Now I flip out and start touching the bottom and I'm sure I feel the Wifi card spot very hot (anyone have a pic reference for verification?) in addition to cpu/gpu being hot.

Past couple months problems: Wifi card would just disable itself, and had to enter the device manager to enable it. (Wifi Link card)

Fixed it with new driver from forum: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...85-drivers-hp-dv3-compaq-cq35-cq36-intel.html

Also worth noting that I have been using cpugenie (but the trial expired, I paid but USB/internal camera/SD reader stopped functioning so I reinstalled Win7 which fixed it, but cpugenie is not accepting the paid key)

My comp may be a little dusty since last clean was 2-3 months ago, but playing COD the max temps are 79-81C with cpugenie.

also what is the TJmax for a P7550 anyways? i thought it was 90C..

So... can anyone help explain what happen, or what I can do?

If you are still under warranty, send it in for overheating

My dv3 is one month out of warranty and just over a year old and has also started overheating about every two hours or more if i'm using something memory intensive. I contacted hp support a month or so ago when i had problems connecting to a monitor. They advised me to get a different (hdmi) monitor (not super helpful). It was after I did this that the overheating problem began and it has happened with increasing frequency ever since.

I've seen this problem reported on various boards and I suspect it is a fault. I'm certainly incredibly dissapointed that my computer is no longer fit to work on (and this is my work) after only a year of use.

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone else get a resolution? I've heard that it could be the graphics card and that there is a class action in america against nvidia regarding other hp models... is the dv3 affected by this problem?

    thanks.

    Not affected, different materials used.

It is very possible that the system cooler is blocked by dust, most common reason for system overheating.

I haven't opened any dv3 models but if they are similar to other pavilions of same era, cleaning the cooler assembly isn't that simple and requires quite a lot screwing. Any skilled tech can do it in 30-60 minutes. Replacing the thermal paste at the same time is also wise thing to do.
