Pavilion DV4 laptop will not boot, blank screen few lights around the keyboard. Battery charged any suggestions please. Operated perfectly last time switched off.
What do you do basically with a dead computer?
Is there an override or a test procedure?
    Many thanks for any help....

Which version do you have? Do you have a more complete model number? If it is a AMD GPU that most likely the GPU is dead and you have to send it to someone to swap the board or reball the GPU back to the motherboard to work. Those lights around the keyboard is a sure sign that board is bad. You will have to use something like ebay seller to re-ball the GPU back to the board. I would fix the board if all the other components still are working. No sense in selling the computer if all still work. I have a AMD DV4 complete with bad board but will send the board off to fix and to me is still worth keeping.

Thanks for your response, I don't know whether it's an AMD or not as I haven't had it running yet.
Here is the info: HP Pavilion Entertainment PC and on the lable. model dv4 2045dv - Serial cnd94329v2 - Product vm298ua#aba.
Does this help to identify it? The lights that are on are the Volume indent and the Caps and the Scroll lights only.
Slight hum from the HD but no BIOS boot. Does this help?

    Here is the the info:

Video Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4200 Graphics

So there is a high chance the GPU has gone bad and needs to be re-soldered. Cause I think I have another similar HP as your with AMD GPU and it lights up on the caps lock and scroll lock lights and no display. So I think you motherboard might need to have the GPU re-soldered back or a new chip-set GPU re-soldered to prevent future problems on the board. But I will be home later tonight and check my Serial to see if it matches up with yours and if it does then the fault is in the GPU.
