Hey all i just picked up the new laptop (specs below in sig) and have noticed a few hiccups.

I just got it yesterday, and when initially setting it up, that silly "HP start up" software seemed to lock up more then once (with the silly hands moving around n blah blah blah.) Well eventually had to restart and with that crap out of the way, set things up normally. Got everything updated. Wifi's working well, all windows updates out of the way, etc.

However during all this 2 times my computer randomly went into hibernate mode. It wasn't like I'd left it idle for long. I mean i may have left it go for a minute or two w/o interacting with it (while it was plugged in.) I had also altered the power settings to not go into sleep or hibernate while it was plugged in , which it was.

I could tell it hibernated by the start up screen saying "resuming windows." Well as an experiment after playing around with power settings and so forth, i left it on all nite while plugged in. In the morning today it was still on and running fine.

I was curious if this is a glitch i should worry about n exchange the laptop, or if i shouldn't worry?

Well if you have to you can turn off hibernation, here's how.

    1. Go to Accessories, right-click Command Prompt , and then click Run as Administrator on the pop up contextual menu.
    2. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
powercfg.exe -h off (you can cut and paste this in.)

Type exit, and then press ENTER.

To turn it back on just change the off to on.

thanks 4 the tip. I actually haven't experienced this issue since the night I got the laptop so I think I'm good *fingers crossed*

That being said HP's aren't the best with their cooling systems it seems. Laptop definitely almost gets hot in the back left corner where the fan is.

    Hi Slayer,
I had a similar issue with my notebook. I'll share with you the instructions HP recommended for me. I would encourage you to call HP and determine if this fix applies to you before you attempt it.
