My family's experiences in the last 3 yeas with HP Laptops has been very unpleasant. However, I'm wondering if I would be ill advised to consider a DV4 if it looks well cared for.
Any thoughts on this model in general?

Not sure but will check. Is there one particularly bad one to look out for?

I would avoid nvidia's 8600, 8400, 7600, 6100. They suffer from overheating issues that cause the solder to crack over time.

Thanks very much. For this model do you think it is the Nvidia then, rather than just HP having quality issues?

If its one of those chipsets don't buy it. The problem was with Nvidia's solder not HP, but you're better off listing what it would come with and the price if you want advice on whether its worth it
