My son has a DV4000, recently it has started to freeze, the only thing that seems to work is to press the palm rest in, which sorts it out for a while, then it freezes again ??

I've already taken out the RAM and blown off any dust, but it's done no good.

    Thanks for any help.

    Paul

Have you figured out what was wrong?

I have the same issue on my dv4000. I press it and it works but later continues to freeze. Took it apart, looked at it but everything seems to be connected.

    Thanks

Hi, yes i sorted it out, the motherboard was faulty, it's a common fault on this model, you can't repair it, so i looked on ebay, about £100 to either replace it or repair it.

So what i did was to break the laptop up for spares, i listed all the parts separately on ebay, the LCD i sold for £75, i got about £200 in total, then i brought a DV6000 on ebay, only just over a year old, much better than my son's old dv4000, i didn't pay anything extra and he got a much better laptop in the end.

Everything turned out great in the end. my son was very happy.
