Hey Guys, one of my friend is having problems with his DV4000. I have not seen the computer physically. But he told me that when ever he turns on the computer, after the HP logo he get the black screen with the check media cable error message.

So In my attempt to help him over the phone, I told him to take out the HDD and put it back to make sure that sitting properly. It didn't work.

Then I asked him to run the HDD diagnostic from the BIOS, and when he tried to do it say that it was unable to run the diagnostic because there is no Hard Drive.

I told him that it sounds like a dead Hard drive, but since I am not 100% sure. I want to know if any of you guys know what could be causing this problem and how to solve it.

For me it sounds like the Hard drive is dead, what you guys think?

    I will appreciate your help!!

I forgot to mention that he live far away from me and I guess the only way for him to test out to see if its the hard drive or not will be just buying a new one.

    What do you guys think??

Was the HDD ever unplugged/removed before he problem started appearing?? If it had been then tell your friend to check the adpator and see if it is poperly seated. If the adaptor is fine then it might be dead HDD.

It was well sited because he told me it was working that he told me that he was using it to check his email, closed the lid and came back 15 later and it had that message.

Yep I think it is the Hard drive. Thanks miner for the help.
