Anyone out there have a DV4000 with the x700 and had freezing problems with WoW?
I would play for a while at full CPU power and I would freeze. No errors in the log. Was feeling fairly hot though.
Then I would run the game and occasionally check temp and I was always in an acceptable range. Then i would freeze.
I throttled the CPU down to 800mhz and I thought it went away...then it was fine again. I could never figure out why.
Now typically I run the game for 30 mins..freeze. Reboot (my BT always isnt working when I turn off and turn back on so I have to restart again) and then log on and everything is okay.
Just curious if anyone has had this issue.

How hot is your notebook getting? I've heard problems about some dv4000s with overheating problems when the user is playing games.
-
Are you playing WoW with your laptop on your lap? Make sure that the fans aren't being blocked.
Also, it might be a driver problem. As always, update drivers. Do NOT get the mobility drivers straight from ATI as they seem to mess my laptop up sometimes (screen won't turn back on aften closing and opening the lid). -
I play with it on a table..sometimes propped up to see if it helped (it didnt)
As far as I know all my drivers are up to date.
Are you warning against the catalyst 5.13 driver? That is what I am currently using. -
I played it for about 1.5 hours yesterday with no problems. I have a Compaq V4000T with x700, 1.6 P-M, and 512mb DDR2.

Another v4000t here and it runs fine for extended periods of time. I'm using the 5.13 drivers as well.
Wonderdude how is it running on your computer? I'm able to put all the settings on high and it usually runs above 30fps with an occasional dip, does the game perform alright with less memory? -
I don't know about the exact frame rates. But it looks totally smooth at 1280x800 all the standard settings.

ctl+r for framerate
i turned everything up as high as it can go and with vsync on it usually stays locked at 29fps. Looks beautiful -
Cool! Thanks!
Well, I didn't turn everything up. But I tried it out at 1280x800 and it ran at around 50 - 60 FPS. -
fps and gameplay are awesome, it just randomly locks up once and then is fine the rest of the night.
I dont even know where to start to diagnose it as there are no noticable errors and when it happened last night i checked the temp and it was sitting at 46C..not much of an issue now, more of an annoyance. But i don't want to be sneaking around in a contested area and freeze at a critical moment. -
So did you have any more issues or did it go away? I wwas thinking of getting this laptop for my son to play WoW. This may change my mind.

Anybody interested in playing WoW REALLY needs to check out their forums before buying the game. It has been a nightmare to try to play that game for a while now since they rolled out update 1.9 and it hasn't gotten any better.
* Long waits to logon and download your character
* Unbearable server lag (see a mob try to run..lag.. get control back... you're dead)
* outrageous que times of 1-3 hours at times to play certain games
* graphic card glitches (they basically tell everybody to upgrade their drivers and check their systems for virii and such... "oh yeah, I've been playing this game since beta with the same card and divers with no problems til patch 1.9 and now it's something on my end [repeat that statement times 100,000+ angry WoW veterans]
* Intermittent server disconnects (I waited in a que for an hour finally got to play, played 15 minutes... disconnected [repeat that XXXXX times]
* when everything works it's a wonderful experience, but lately it doesn't work so well for everybody (how lucky do you feel)
Your experience may vary. WoW'ers tell it like it is, don't let some unexpecting soul get blindsided.
If you're having or not having problems let others know what graphics card, drivers, server you are on, and whether its PvE (player vs. environment) or PvP (player vs. player).

I would recommend updating to ATI catalyst 6.2. If I remember correctly I saw something about how this was supposed to help solve some of these problems. Anyway, it's probably worth a try.

I have no real updates. It still happens.
I have tried rebooting before playing and sometimes it locks up, sometimes it doesn't.
I can't seem to find a definite issue, although I have some weird feeling it has something to do with my memory, or maybe the effects of the large memory/hibernate hotfix. No clue.
At this point I just deal with it, I solo mostly in the game due to time constraints so I just play and deal with it.
I love this laptop but I am unsure if I will stick with it. Got it at costco so I still have a few months in my 6 month area.
My advice, is to get this laptop. Nothing wrong with it, I think it is a personal environment or hardware issue. As a laptop it is fantastic. Just make sure to get your son a nice wireless mouse.
WoW....btw i have had no issues with even after the patch. Could be my server though. Or luck. -
Here's a new thread at WoW just started today... sound familiar?

I get 30-40 FPS on highest settings 1280x800. You must have a GB of ram to play this game smoothly, no exceptions. Also, you're internet connection is VERY important. Latency above 300ms will lead to a very unplayable experience
