I just looked at HP.com and it has the DV4000 listed at $1599 starting price which is way more than it was. When you click on it to customize an error page pops up. I can't tell but it looks like maybe they are changing the DV4000 again, maybe adding a core duo option or something. Interesting.

yeah! i was trying to buy my dv4000 about 2 mins ago, and the site seemed to be down! this could be very good, or at least it could be good that I hadn't tried to buy my lappy last nite.

    i'm exited. :)

I think they are just changing the price. The Costco site is still working and the price is actually a couple hundreds cheaper than 3 months ago with identical configuration. There is a $150 instant coupon and $50 rebate. Usually the Costco site will follow HP to update their price within a day.

Is the core duo that big a deal? Is it worth the extra $$'s? Or better to grab the lower priced one from Costco tonight?

Well, if you look at the site this morning they have restricted how far you can go on a processor and no more ATI x700 on the dv4000. Looks like the dv4000 will be the basic machine of the line with the dv5000 being the "premium" model of the 15.4 lappys.
HOWEVER, the dv5000 is an identical machine and you can get that with core due and a GeForce Go 7400! Further, you can get a dv8000 with same.
My Lappy shopping just got a helluva lot more interesting! I just wish they would've put the Go 7400 in the dv1000t. THAT would be my dream PC.

OK, that's great in some ways, not so much in others. I'm sure the changes in the 5000 line are a good thing, but it jacked the price up by several hundreds of dollars. I suppose its worth it if you can afford it. I've read in more than one place that the display was a little flimsy, I wonder if they fixed that.

Oh, and which of the processors is best in one of these babies? I plan to do image editing, slideshows, web design and web surfing with it. In terms of balancing speed/power with battery life, is it better to go with the less or more powerful one, or stay right in the middle?

I did not see a Duo CPU for DV4000 lines in their news release last month so I don't think there will be one soon.

i dont know about getting a GeForce 7400. if you have read the graphics comparison chart a 7400 cant compete with a x700. good thing i ordered my dv4000 when there was a x700 option. they should try to put a 7600 or 7800, that would be great on a hp.

    I've seen a Go 7400 at 2000 3D Marks 05. I don't know what an x700 posts.
I wish HP would have put the thing in the dv1000t. I'd buy it in a second. The dv5000 and dv8000 are just too big for what I need right now.
