My backlight is very even. It's kind of a crap-shoot, though - sometimes, you'll just get a bum screen on any notebook. Exchanges happen!

I don't have any pics of a DVD running in my review, but there are some pics of the screen there as well as in Togus's review of his dv4000 also published on this site.

I'll try and find some time to take a pic of the screen with a DVD running in the coming days, but it'll be awhile. If another dv4000 owner has a chance to post one first, all the better!

If I had a camera, I'd be glad to show you the light leakage on mine. Its only on the very bottom of the screen and only noticable when the entire screen is displaying black. And even then, it doesn't bother me at all. Light leakage doesn't disturb me in the least, its all subjective, yet my shiny, worn out keys are irritating me whereas nobody else I know seems to notice or care.

I don't have an issue with that at all, no problems here. Keep in mind that virtually all notebooks have light leakage, my brother's portable DVD player has some nasty light leakage at the bottom but it still doesn't affect the dvd experience, I can only notice it when the screen is showing nothing but black.

My really only concern with screens is stuck/dead pixels. Its amazing how the average notebook LCD has over 800,000 pixels yet just one bad pixel can stick out like a sore thumb. I still can't beleive the used Fujitsu Lifebook I bought from Ebay had over 40 stuck pixels, what did the last owner do to it!?
I sent it to Fujitsu to get it fixed and they did and two minutes after I power it on after getting it back, a really bright red stuck pixel just pops up smack dab in the middle of the screen, the horror......

Its nothing to worry about almost all LCD's has some amount of leakage.

All LCD's have a backlighting which provides for the brightness of the screen. Without this backlight all LCD's will be more or less dark. The backlight allows you to see the stuff on the screen. The crystals by themselves do not have any light. Since there is always a light shining on LCD screens, it is hard for them to achieve true black(absence of light). If you put the default Windows XP screensaver you can see that it is not truly black. The bottom is a little bit brighter than the rest. This is very common in almost all LCD's. Some dont have it, some have little effect whereas some like this Dell(see link) have a lot. It just depends on your luck and is not considered as a defect by the manufacturers.

No (noticeable) leakage with mine either. I'm sure there's some that a very finicky or true enthusiast would detect, but for the average user the screen on my dv4000 is fantastic. After I first powered it up a couple months ago I noted one stuck pixel, and I even commented about it in a previous post, however it's since "fixed" itself, leaving me with a full glorious screen free of any defects.
