so im new to this forum and i have been studying both the toshiba and hp section constantly in the past week and i love it
i just want to say this place is sick, im a member of the GMF forums and they are amazing as well but this place just beats on all in technology, words cant explain how much interest i have being fulfilled here, anyway enough butkiss,
so im trying to decide between these two laptops and i defintiely want one or the other, and i would usually go with my gut which tells me HP but i have never had one before so i dont know what they are like or their reliability but both are certainly very nice laptops, i included important specs below, they are virutally the same except for a few key differences, mainly processor speed, hd speed, extras, and features are a lil different or so
just wanted to know if u guys could get one or the other, which would u get and possibly why (ex. id get the toshiba b/c its got a faster hd), basically im trying to figure out if the features of one are more important than the other in a general audience,
also if anyone has had good or bad experiences with either brand or tech support of either one id like to hear that (ex. my hp fan always breaks)
it seems like ppl lean to hp for support wise, what i really want to know right now is, is hp reliable for the most part, im not asking for someting to last me 4 years, but 1-2 would be nice, i like the hp b/c of the quickplay from ur hd too
heres a post from another forum i posted in, sorry if i refer to something that has nothing to do with this forum i just dont want to have to retype it all
he hp is supposed to have sick battery life, (thats why i lean towards it) and the features are really nice, the whole quick play thing is nice plus u can get all ur mp3's off u hard drive to play which u cant in toshiba, and i know u will say well why not just boot but hey its a cool feature
also it has a remote and ir port
and express card will be nice b/c i might be able to go external vid card on that in the future
im transfering the remaing one year of my psp at best buy to this computer if i get it
the toshiba is nice, but the speakers annoy me cus they are at the back,
i just checked my vaio out (i never really considered hd rpm when buying it) and its actually 4200 rpm (its the PCG-FRV26) and i tried to launch photoshop cs2 and it started and got all the plugins in under 5 seconds and launched the initial app in under 1 so im happy with a 4200rpm drive...plus this vaio i have now is 512 ram and i know that this gig ram will help me launch **** mad faster now...
i just like the hp i guess and if u search "dv4000" at the notebookreviews.com forums everyone is fanatical about it and then if u search hp service, reliability, or tech support almost everyone is in agreement toshiba is going downhill while hp is going up slowly...which suprised me b/c my dad, my twin, and my older sister all have toshibas and all pretty high end models of them, and i used to have one back in 8th grade so i thougth they were nice then
w/e

thanks for your time guys, ps i cant get anything but these two b/c im getting my laptop (the vaio) replaced for free from Best Buy so i have to choose from their selection of in store models at the store that i live near
pleeeeeeease im begging u, help me decide which one is the best, THANKS

I have always found HP to be a great company but I have never had a problem with Toshiba either. In case you wondering I have worked in IT for over 10 years so I have worked with alot of systems.
Personally I like HP but you would get a little more power from the toshiba.
I think you would be happy with either. -
I was also in your boat and bought the Toshiba first.
Ended up with 4 bad sealed units and then tried the HP DV4030.
I have no regrets at all.
I was a previous Toshiba and Thinkpad user, but the Toshiba's aren't what they used to be and the IBM's didn't offer the glossy screens.
I think the HP is built much better than the Toshiba.
The only thing I like about the Toshiba was that their screen was slightly brighter.

I personally feel that Toshiba's quality has gotten worse over the years, I recommend the DV4170.
