It's been over a year now and my warranty is out (just my luck). I was wondering what is causing this problem? Could it be that the cable connecting the LCD screen to the motherboard is loose? If so I can open it up and try reattaching!

Usually when I see lines like that, the panel itself is broken.
Do those lines disappear if you squeeze the display bezel from either end of those lines.
Broken LCD cable would cause interference on screen, occasionally black picture etc.
