Those of you with the DV4, does your keyboard flex?

Every mid-range laptop keyboard does flex...and dv4t keyboard does flex a little when you apply a larger force than what you do while normal typing..

    im bumping this..

my dv4t flexes at the top right of the board, around the keys E R, number keys 3 4 5 6, and most prevalent at function keys f4 f5 f6.

I have read about other people having issues who solved it by removing and re-seating the keyboard as they thought the keyboard wasn't installed properly. Have you tried this? I'm considering it... or even ordering a new keyboard :(

it wouldn't bother me so much, but it sounds empty or something underneath those keys, not sturdy at all. Not cool for a brand new $1300 laptop.

Pop the keyboard out and put tape underneath on the places where it flexes.

Can someone measure the dv4 keyboard for me? Im thinking of putting one of my dv2000.

hey man, I can measure it for you when I get it out...

I tried lastnight, but I could not get the thing out. I tried watching the videos on HP's service guide, but the DV4 version is not up to date. There are tutorials for the DV5, but the whole structure underneath the laptop is different.

I checked out the PDF, but that didn't help much. I THINK I have to remove the keyboard cover (lcd) as well, but the PDF says only 3 screws and it should come out... mine didn't.

I'm hoping after re-installing it, it will feel more solid. I tested out the DV5 keyboards at my local stores and they are all solid, wonder why mine feels hollow underneath.

I have found the DV4 keyboards online, most being $122 or something but I found one site where it is only 66, I can send it to you if you were interested.

If anyone knows how, or has popped out the keyboard I would appreciate some input. Thanks!

Yea its the same setup as the DV2000,

Judging by the photos its exactly the same keyboard as Dv2/6000's and DV5t

It should be 3 screws on the bottom and abit of nudging up top. Make sure you dont pull the keyboard out before you unlock the ZIF connector.

does the top of the keyboard screw into the frame? I mean are there any screws at the very top of the keyboard which screw underneath where the LEDs are? Or is it really only those 3 screws underneath?

I can find the two long screws, which is the 3rd?

Screws should all be at the bottom in the battery bay. There will be a keyboard symbol right next to the screws.

My DV4's keyboard feels really solid. I suppose it's personal preference since I've been using a Dell Studio 15 for a while...man that thing's backlit keyboard has major flex.
