    I've seen many people report DV5 first gen running hot or even overheating. Well that's because it's time to replace melted pad on your CPU

    I've bought highly recommended Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste and applied it to CPU.

    And viola, the fan now rarely kicks in ("FAN always on" is disabled in bios running the latest rev from HP web site) while browsing internet when cooling vents are open.

    What did you put in the gap between the gpu and copper heatsink?

    I simply cleaned the GPU pad. I didn't see a need to have it replaced. You can see it on the top picture.

    what application would I use for that? HWMonitor doesn't show GPU temp.
