    I have a DV5-1155ee (specs in sig)

    It currently has 4 GB RAM Installed 2 x 2 GB DDR2 PC6400 SODIMMS

The question is, if I buy DDR3 1066 MHZ RAM would it work on it?

No it will not. The DV5's motherboard does not support it, hence DDR3 is not used in the first place.

PC6400 = DDR2 800. There is nothing wrong with DDR2 infact most people wouldnt even be able to tell any performance difference between DDR2 800 and DDR3 1066 memory. I would have been happier if my T400 shipped with DDR2 memory which is cheaper and more value than DDR3. Sure there are some advantages in terms of power consumption but I dont think the difference is great enough to bother most people.

There's apparently 1066MHz sticks that are DDR2 according to a post ( this post) in the dv5t owners thread.

Apparently you were right, check the attachment, that is taken from SiSoft Sandra. PC 6400 = 800 MHZ FTW
