Well guys i plan to format my new lappy because the world knows that factory installs are just the worst (too much junk you wont ever use)....
So my plan is to format and install xp prof (mine came wiith home)....

So my question is what do i need , will there be any driver issues, will my lappy(not here yet need to pick it up) come with all the driver cd's ???

I know that my 80 gig hd has some partition called hp recovery(i want to get rid of that) and the lappy comes with the feature to play dvd's without booting up (i want to keep this)

But since i dont have it physically i dunno whats in the box and whats not.....

So my question is does hp provide you with all the drivers you may need for your system(mine was ordered from compusa)

    specs
    2.0ghz turion
    1 gb ram
    80 gig hd 5400 rpm
    ati 200m 128 discreet memory with h/memory
    12 cell battery

really a sweet setup in my opinion :D Cant wait to get it...........

Yes it should come with drivers...I have a dv4000 and mine came with everything I needed although i dont really need them because i didnt do a reinstall of os when i got it, but later on i had to do a re-install because of a user profile corrupted and still didnt need them but if for some reason you need drivers go to http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html and then type in your laptop model and their are all the needed drivers there!

According to HP--the recovery cds and manuals are not shipped with the Pavilion Dv5000s but you can create your own with the PC Recovery CD/DVD Creator that comes with the pc.

I think they also make it an option to have the recovery disk bundled. It may worth to get that option as some program is not in the recovery image, e.g. QP2.0.

So are you saying i have to pay more for the recovery disc my cousin has the lappy, so does it mean i have to call hp and request the recovery cd, by the way what drivers are on the cd that wont be provided when i do a recovery image ??? apart from Quick play 2.0 and cant i get that from HP's website......

Why should i have to request the cd cant they just send it, suppose my lappy crashes... i have to wait 4 them to send me a recovery disc......

When i bought a dell (pc) i got everything and i mean everyhting.....

Hp needs to do better ........

whats so special about the dv5000 why i cant get the manuals recovery cd etc....

Not all drivers are available on HP's website. Some of the core drivers like the chipset and USB usually will not be on their website. The recovery disc that you burn will most probably be an image and you most probably wont be able to extract the individual drivers.

They actually started the trend of not including the recovery discs in 2005. If you try and configure a Dell laptop you will notice that they charge $10 for them. HP, Acer, Gateway followed suit in 2006. Toshiba offered only a recovery DVD which was again a ghost image of the drive containing all the extra junk. So, that is the trend on the industry, trying to save every bit of money they can.
