well, it's doing it again. the fix that was told to me by hp techs does not work anymore.. they said to take out the battery, and unplug the a/c adapter and hold the power button down for 60 seconds. then load the bios setup defaults. well, that worked once upon a time, and now it doesn't.. so i'm able to send it back for a new laptop. hopefully this one won't have this defect. anyone else had this happen before? i hope not.

i see hp is offering the dv series in bronze now. don't know if i like that or not.

hp wants to charge my credit card again, for the difference since i used a coupon, and then credit it back.. what a waste of time.. just take this one,, and send me a new one. makes perfect sense to me.

oh, and the tech on the phone said that i'm allowed to replace it since i've fallen in before that 15 day period. i thought it was 21 days? either way, doesn't the 1 year warrenty cover such things anyhow? i'm a little confused about that one.

i would try removing the RAM and re-seating it. remember to discharge yourself of all the static electricity first before handling components.

they tried to also tell me that the microphone wasn't available anymore.. i said, "HUH?!?!?!" the thing ain't even 2 months old yet, and they're changing things? it turns out, its just not listed anymore,, it's still there. intra-grated they called it,,, i said.. you mean built in? no, they said... intra-grated. i said.. ok.. same t hing dude...and dropped it.. i wonder sometimes about people.

i'm starting to wonder if it is a problem with a certain configuration. you know.. some things just don't play well with others kind of thing. does anyone else have the letters CTO after their part number? you know.. as in DV5T-1000CTO.

CTO stands for Configure To Order...usually what you get if you build is off the HP site, not what you get at Best Buy or other big box stores

But yes, mine is a DV5-1000CTO

Make sure all USB and external devices are unplugged from the notebook.

Did I make the wrong choice buying the dv5t? I see a lot of issue with it. I recently had this problem where the volume kept going up and down without me touching the blue button above the keyboard.
I finally fixed the issue but that meant I couldn't use the quickplay buttons anymore.

    No CTO.

But if you go to the HP support site, it lists DV5T-1000 CTO

There are some annoyances, and that is one of them. get the latest quickplay driver from HP.

By and by, loving my laptop

nope, that doesn't matter either. i've unplugged my mouse.. only usb item at the time. i've tried it without the battery, and just a/c just the battery, both.. turned it upside down,,(kidding) it's going back. :(

hahaha...reminded me of the time I needed to flip my T41p on its side so wireless would work properly.
