Between these two models, for use as digital photo editing, watch movies, and all office apps, is there much difference between these two? Just a little light gaming, but nothing like Crysis.

id say HDX16 the screen quality is great and the wide form factor is a pleasure to view/looks at it and since you are doing multimedia that may matter more to you.

Thank you. Is there a substantial price difference (I mean if the specs were similar like say the base config for both)?

HDX series hands down. i was going to purchase the DV5T but with its heating issues i looked elsewhere. 16" screen is such a gem to look at, i have a buddy with a 15.6" and love it to death. I just like everything about HDX16t that Dv5T does not have, screen being the best feature. Color scheme is another thing i like

Did you get yours at HP Direct, or through Best Buy?
I keep hoping before or after Christmas that BB could have a spectacular sale on it. I think they have the HDX

no i got it directly from HP, on the 10th i ordered it, should be here this week. I used a 30% coupon so i couldnt pass such a good deal on it. Reason i would not recommend getting it form BB is they dumb their versions down and fill it with hardware thats inferior and sell it for almost the same ammount...

Unless i am wrong but thats usually the case with store only laptops.

I'm not sure where you are getting your information that inferior components are used for brick and mortar stores. However, buying from a B&M doesn't allow for customizing. You are stuck with what they have, and most of the laptops I've seen at B&M's have the lower screen resolution which for the HDX16 is one of the product highlights.

Remember you want an accurate screen for your photo editing needs, such as accurate colors, on the screen at least, in print it's a different story.
