I have to preface this by totally bragging about how I found a DV5Z with a 2.2ghz X2 Ultra, 2gb RAM, a 256mb Radeon 3450 and a docking station on Craigslist for $450. Some kid got it for Christmas and didn't like it. His mom was there when I picked it up, and she looked pretty steamed that he sold it that cheap. Man, it's in like brand new condition and still has warranty up through August '09. :D :D

Anyway, I wiped the HD and reinstalled Vista. All the drivers are installed, but it didn't occur to me to check if there was webcam software available on HP's website. I'm not sure if Vista has a webcam program or something (I'm used to XP 64-bit) or if I'm just totally missing how to use the thing. Can anyone help?

Did you copy the SWsetup folder from the C partition before you wiped away the factory windows install?

If you did then HP has provided a program from cyberlink (if I remember correctly) that allows you take pictures with the webcam as well as to edit those pictures (add borders etc). Normally you can't download this OEM software direct from HP you have to get it from the SWsetup folder on the hard drive.

Instant messenger programs such as windows live messenger also allow you to turn on the webcam and use it (but I don't think they allow you to take pictures with it).

Then of course you could also use HP's quickplay software to view the webcam.

As for windows vista itself I am not sure if it has any built in apps that would allow you to control the webcam or take pics with it.
