Hi guys, I have just been playing silent hunter for about 2 hours with hardware monitor running and when I came off, hardware monitor had recorded a maximum temperature on the GPU of 106 degrees celcius. naturally, I am really worried as this surely isnt normal.

questio is what should I do?

what is the tremal spec temp for the 9600Mgt?

Also, the CPU was about 85 deg C

gonna try the latest bios now.... Help... anyone!

@lukext,106 is ridiculously high for a laptop...you will need to get a good cooler for your dv5. Were you aware of the heat issues before making the purchase or were you just in a state of shock when your GPU hit 3 figures? :(
That means, my GPU is faulty as well?!
My GPU has hit 103 max in Race Driver Grid demo after about one and half hours of gaming..(without the back of the laptop raised)..
I had called up Hp tech support today and I will be taking it to the service center tomorrow...(the online tech person told me some B.S  about heatsink...could not understand)..

If your laptop is still in warranty, I would say going for another two year accidental warranty.
You definitely will benefit from it.
this will make sure when the laptop's GPU actually die, you can have it fixed or exchange(this happens =] )

the way to lower the temp are, clean your laptop, try to remove some dust with air-sprayer.
take off the laptop remote from your left palm side can also help.
you can also buy a cooler.

I've purchased the NZXT Cryo cooler and my temps dropped by about 5-10 degrees.

How long have you had your laptop? Are you using it on a hard surface? Have you tried using a can of compressed air to blow into the exhaust of the notebook?

Also when you said some BS about the heatsink, that actually could be a possibility. Your laptops heatsink may either be faulty or not properly fit.

This is literaly 1 day old, had it for xmas. The GPU is regularly exceeding 90 deg c and touches 100 only after 20mins of a game. :(

Im takin it back tomrrow for an exchange.

    Not happy!

dont game on anything other than propped up on a desk or on a cooler. beds/sofas/carpets are all too good at causing laptops to overheat. i thought they had a theshold level tto shut down at? sure its not just reading wrong?
