Just did a clean install on my DV5t, the latest driver from HP for the 9600m GT is "v7.15.11.7588 A"

The Geforce Power pack on Nvidia's website with physX and CUDA support is "v177.83"

What's the deal with two versions? Are mobile drivers only available through HP? Is the HP posted driver much older? Do I have PhysX support with HP's posted driver?

What driver do users of this forum recommend I use?

NVIDIA's v177.83 driver natively supports GeForce 8 and higher DESKTOP cards; if you want to use it for laptop GeForce chipsets, you will have to retrieve the modified INF from LaptopVideo2Go. HP provides the v175.88 driver because that is the latest driver that HP had approved for their dv4/dv5/dv7 series, but it is by no means new.

As for CUDA and PhysX support, v177.83 or higher is required. PhysX System Software v8.08.01 is also required for full PhysX support on GeForce 8 series and higher with 256 MB or more dedicated memory (both mobile and desktop).

Yes, I don't see why it won't work as long as you meet the requirements that I stated above (GeForce 8 and higher with at least 256 MB graphics memory). If you wish to try it, let us know how well it works and your opinions on it. Remember that for full PhysX support, you will have to install and configure PhysX System Software v8.08.01, which is conveniently included with driver v177.83 (you may have to launch it separately though).

I'm just gonna stick with the latest driver backed by Nvidia.
