Hey guys. I had a question about the dv5t's tuner. If you don't order the built in tuner, does it still come with a jack on the side to plug in the antenna? Or is it not there?
The reason I ask, is because on the dv5t page, it says built in tuner, but on the dv4t page, it says built in tuner with a * that says its optional, which isn't on the dv5t page.

$100 is wayy to much, especially when you can get an expresscard tuner with qam support for cheaper.

Basically, to clarify my question, if you do not get a tuner with your dv5t, does it still come with the mcx port

Thanks for the info kevinf. Realtorken, I guess you trying to say take off the cap or whatever and use it. If thats what you are trying to say, I'm pretty sure that its not there if its capped. I may be wrong, however.

Also, people who are going to buy the hp tuner, DONT! Get this expresscard tuner with qam support or something like it for cheaper.

And I think its better than integrated, because if your hp breaks you can still use it on another laptop. If your hp goes down, you're sol and $100.

I disagree. I got the built in tuner and it works fine for me. Yes, the HDTV over-the-air reception is choppy, but there is only one HDTV channel around here anyway. The tuner works great when plugged into a coaxial cable.

Technically the TV tuner cost $70 for me since I used the 30% off coupon.

Ya, but the thing is, qam allows you to view free hd channels over the coax cable itself. You don't need the atsc tuner with qam. And, as qam comes over the cable, you don't really have to worry about the quality (unless you have old coax cables), making qam much better than atsc, especially with the dinky antenna they supply. And the hp tuner doesn't have a qam tuner (at least I think so)

I have two dv5's one with the tuner and one without. There is a plastic plug where the antenna connection is on the non tuner notebook. The guts are not inside if you dont order the option. It is a mini pci card the plugs into a slot located behind one of the covers on the back of the laptop. There is a small antenna cable that goes from the card to the port on the side of laptop. I get all the local hi def channels with the little antenna supplied by hp, so I think its all very cool. Best of all its built in so you dont have to carry around yet another accessory with your laptop.

    guys,

i'm trying to configure an hp notebook with the following specs:

Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T5850 (2.16GHz)

    15.4" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)

    3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)

256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS - For Core 2 Duo

    250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

Primary CD/DVD drive SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support

also, i'm looking for a decent fm/tv tuner that is truly portable (no need to connect to a home cable, although a miniature antennae like that of the HP's will be just fine ). if possible, the one which can make me use my notebook as a PSP monitor (if there is such thing as that).

hope you can help me with this. i'm already having headaches. :confused2:

    thanks in advance.
