    Hey all,

So my DV5t almost always has the volume button/controls freak out while using it. It all starts the first time I press the volume up or down on the touchpad thing. Then it KEEEEEEPPPPPSSSSSS (so annoying) changing the volume up and down and up and down. Usually no more than 5 units but it happens 2-3 times per second. Then when I actually go to change the volume myself it'll (for example turning it down) go down, then go right back to where it came from. If I hold the down volume button it'll go down maybe 20 units and then shoot right back up when I let go. Please let me know what the problem may be/what I should do about it. Thanks :)

Instead of just pressing the - or + buttons, it may work better for your finger/computer if you try sliding your finger along the line, to the desired volume level. Although I haven't had problems either way with mine, I find that sliding gives a good amount more control, so maybe it'll work better for you.

    tried it :(
and it still always ends up back where it started/twitchin out.
Sometimes it doesn't go all the way back to where it started, but maybe half way..

Have you tried updating the drivers to the most current? I dunno if it'll help but its worth a look. Try finding it on HP's site.

This problem has been reported several times before. You can try one of the two items that follow:

    1. Disable the on line Volume Display without uninstalling any software. (It’s easily reversable)

    1. Click the Vista start icon, bottom left.
    2. Type RUN in the Start Search box, ENTER.
    3. Type MSCONFIG in the OPEN: area, Click OK.
    4. Click on Continue if asked.
    5. Select the StartUp Tab in the System Configuration menu.
    6. Remove the Checkmark from the HP Quicktouch On Screen Display item.
    7. Click on OK and Restart if required.

Reverse above procedure to restore to original if desired

    2. If that doesn't work for you then:
Uninstalling the HP Quick touch software should solve the problem.

Does uninstalling that mean that the quicktouch won't even work anymore?

This is so frustrating, I'm honestly on my last string with this d@mn thing. One more problem and it's back to where it came from.

I have never completely uninstalled the QuickTouch software so I can't answer that question but it should only eliminate the on-screen volume display and associated sounds.

Try the first method and see if it does what you want. The only thing it does is prevent the on-screen volume control from activating and that usually eliminates the problem. All controls work as they should. I use method 1 on my notebook.

    Hi,
I tried the solution involving msconfig, and disabling the HP QT OSD. It works so far, I think. After a restart, the Volume Control works as intended.

    Thanks guys!
