    Hi There,

I'm a user from the UK and I'm afraid this problem requires a bit of a back story...

Now a proud owner of the DV5t which I LOVE, but When my laptop arrived initially the wireless hardware was faulty, so I had to return it to HP immediately for repairs. (the wireless light stayed amber and would not switch on)

Got the laptop back a week later and the wireless problem has been resolved, however, now every time that I boot up I get a bazare bios screen (attached) between the boot screen and the os boot screen. The fact its there is not a problem, but it freezes there for about a minute and really slows my boot up.

Also, every second time that I boot up (yes it is exactly one in every two boots) it takes FOREVER. As well as the extra boot screen, the vista welcome screen freezes for about a minute, and then the screen goes black for about another minunte or so.

I'd consider myself reasonably tech proficient but I have no Idea how to operate BIOS, so if anyonw could help me out I'd really appreciate it!

Do people think that the HP tech guys were a bit sloppy not to bring the machine back in perfect condition? (My laptop arrived back covered in crumbs and caked on food which took ages to remove!)

    System specs:
    OS: Windows vista x32
CPU: Intel core duo P7350 2Ghz
    Quanta motherboard
    BIOS: F.09 HP
    RAM: SODIMM 4Gb (2x2Gb)
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9200
    Hard Disk: Toshiba 5200rpm 250gb
    DVD RW Optical Drive

Well, I don't really know what it is trying to tell me after the boot up screen. I've got a screenshot of it but I don't know how to embed it onto one of these posts!

Ok i know wat the prb is, basically they have activated booting from Ethernet on ur laptop. Its simple to switch off, press esc while it is abt to boot, just on the HP screen and it will come up with options to go into bios, i think it is F1 or F2 to get into bios settings, once u r there, u can change the boot order to HDD first and CD rom second or sumthing, and make sure there is no Ethernet boot, once u do tht u wont get tht screen anymore.

    Hey thanks for the help,

I've gone to bios setup, disabled the network boot and rearranged the boot order. But it hasn't worked. Each time I save and exit the BIOS setup it seems the setting resets cos when I go back in to check the BIOS "network boot" has been enabled again. *** is going on?!

I also did a hard disk and memory error test, cos some of the forums were saying that the error code can be the result of a faulty HDD. Everything came back completely healthy.

    Any ideas?

    1. You might try reseting the BIOS to the default values and see what happens.

    2. You also might try flashing the BIOS again even though it would be with the same BIOS version. Maybe they flashed the BIOS and things didn't go quite right.

    Flashed the Bios, no change.

I keep disabling the network boot, but as soon as I leave (and save) the bios, it enables it again. really weird.

Is it possible that the hp techs have forced a network boot enabled, for whatever reason?

It's so annoying!! not a huge issue as it doesn't seem to affect the working of the laptop, just makes bootup longer than it should be.

    Thanks for your help.

I have tried everything, so it looks like I'm going to have to subject myself to the torture that is phoning hp technical support...
