I'm seriously considering the DV5-1004 that Best Buy has for $799 currently. Does anybody know if this takes the same battery as the DV6000 series? I purchased a 12-cell battery for my DV6000 and would like to know if I can keep that for use with the DV5z series.

    Thanks!

The 12-cell battery is not listed on HP's website during the dv5's customization process.

I would call HP to make sure.

I asked about it with the dv5T that HP is sending me. The quality customer manager said she was not aware of a 12 cell battery for the dv5t yet.

She was giving me the high capacity 6-cell though.

I posted this in another forum where somebody else had asked...

I called customer service to ask this very question since I would like to keep my 12-cell battery I have with my DV6000. The lady I spoke with was very knowledgeable and helpful, but the short answer to your (and my) question is no. Currently there are only the 6-cell and high capacity 6-cell batteries that are a different design than the DV6000 had. She did mention that you can call the parts number and see if you can trade in your old 12-cell for the high capacity 6-cell, 888-593-3835, 8am-8pm eastern time Monday-Friday. I plan to call Monday as I have my DV5-1004 from Best Buy, but haven't opened it yet...I want to see if any better deals come out tomorrow before opening and wishing I had something different.

I have a question about the HP batteries but didn't think it warranted its own thread.

What exactly is the difference between the 6-cell and the 6-cell high capacity? Is there a difference in physical size or is its just 30 dollars more for a battery that can hold a little more charge while still being 6 cells?

    Unfortunately... no...

I asked an HP representative about 12-cell batteries for the new dv4, dv5, and dv7 series. She said they are currently unavailable and 12-cell batteries for other models are not compatible with the new models.

the Physical size is the same. It's just that the 6-cell high capacity just holds more power then the standard 6-cell. An example would be let's say that the standard 6-cell is 4400 mAh the 6-cell high capacity would hold more than that probably like 5500 mAh. This is just an example tho. I have a 12 cell battery which is 8800 mAh. So i'm assuming the standard 6-cell would be 4400. But that would be my guess.

I'd imagine that HP would release the 12-cell batteries sometime in the near future, considering there is already a part number for them (484172-001).
