Hi, I'm thing of purchasing a notebook although I am finding it quite hard to choose whether I should opt to go for the DV6 2nd Gen or DV6 3rd Gen.

    The only difference are:

    DV6 2nd Gen Expresso Black:

    + Bluray Burner
    + Firewire
    + PCI Express Port
    + Touch Sensitive Controls
    + TV Tuner
+ Nice Trackpad feel and functionality
    - Older Chassis
    - 4GB DDR3 RAM (It's not like I'll be using more than 4GB anyways. Just thought I'd mention it.
    - Fingerprint Magnet
    - Prone to scratches

DV6 3rd Gen Silver with etching pattern:

    + New Chassis
    + Island Keyboard
    + Large Trackpad
+ Metal Chassis - Less Prone to fingerprints and scratches
    + TV Tuner
    + 8GB DDR3 RAM
    - No Firewire
    - No Bluray Burner (just the standard DVD)
    - No PCI Express Port (which means can't upgrade to USB 3.0 or other components)
    - Functionality of the track pad is not that good compared with the 2nd gen despite being larger and less prone to fingerprints.

Both models are the same price.

I'd go for the 3rd generation

I like the 2nd gen much more than the 3rd gen, imo of the intel variant.

    Pro.
It has a numpad, an upgradable dual band wifi(5100 can be replaced by a 6300), not bad Nvidia graphic solution, a much better screen. Express Slot. Spare parts are available.

    Con.
Fingerprint magnet, slightly heavier. Difficult consumer access.

Hmm...for the same price, seems the 2nd gen is the better deal here if I base it on features only.

I preferred the 2nd generation looks great, just watch out for faint vertical lines on the screen with some panels, I had three all the same :( , I also had the 3rd generation, but the charging indicator and the hdd activity led is on the right hand side of the notebook next to the charging socket :( , but the screen was fine and the sound was good, major problem with fan noise though i sent it back and bought an Samsung R590 , nice and quiet :)

The 2nd Gen seems to have more visual appeal and functionality overall.

The 3rd Gen feels experimental to me. I'm not sure if that's how you all feel.
