Hello everyone. New here. :D I recently got myself a dv6-6100, not that I regret it but I'm rather disappointed at the lack of a backlit keyboard. I'm sure I'm not alone here. Determined to get a backlit, I've done some research and came to a conclusion that there might be a dv6 keyboard sporting a backlit out there.

    Lets start with
HP Pavilion dv6-6100 Entertainment Notebook PC series specifications - HP Home & Home Office Products

Did you see that? There's an odd dv6 in the keyboard section that has a backlit keyboard: dv6-6130ca :)

According to HP Pavilion dv6-6130ca Entertainment Notebook PC (LY076UA) specifications - HP Home & Home Office Products the item no of the dv6-6130ca is LY076UA, which brings us to...

The HP PartSurfer HP PartSurfer shows that the dv6-6130ca uses the keyboard part number 640436-121 instead of the common 640436-001.

The PartSurfer shows part 640436-121 with a "modified" status rather than the "original" status on most dv6 keyboards! Could this be the backlit keyboard? (btw, it won't let me purchase! so I can't try it out)

Other sources that support the presence of a backlit keyboard are:

HP Pavilion dv6-6130ca Entertainment Notebook PC (LY076UA) specifications - HP Home & Home Office Products

    Buy HP Pavilion dv6-6100 dv6-6130ca LY076UA 15.6" LED Notebook - Core i5 i5-2410M 2.3GHz - Espresso Black - LY076UA#ABC at FrontierPC.com in Canada

Don't get your hopes up though,

This is a video review on the dv6-6130ca
My New Machine (HP PAVILION DV6-6130CA) - YouTube

As you can see, the keyboard did not light up, nor is there a backlit switch icon on the F5 key. :(
I really hope he got the model number wrong!

A few other websites also suggest against of the existence of a backlit:

    Newegg.ca - HP Pavilion DV6-6130CA Notebook Intel Core i5 2410M(2.30GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 640GB HDD DVD±R/RW Intel HD Graphics 3000

Buy the HP Pavilion dv6-6130ca 15.6 Notebook at TigerDirect.ca

So everyone, is there backlit out there? What do you think?

    Probably just a mistake.

Why does HP offer more color options in Canada in the first place? They're an American company for crying out loud...I live in the town where they're headquartered and I can't get the same options they have in Canada?

    Bullcrap...

Well, isn't that the whole point? Given the extra choices HP offers to Canada, I wouldn't be surprised if they get a backlit keyboard option as well. Besides, if the whole thing was a mistake then someone would have made a fuss out of it, right? I would. : P

Yeah, I find it kinda hard to believe that they'd make a mistake on their official website, but the Canadian website is a bit "all over the place" and maybe the "backlit keyboard" was left over from the dv6-4000 series? Who knows...

Just to update anyone following this topic, it looks as though HP has updated information on the dv6-6130ca to remove all references to a backlit keyboard.

I live in Canada, none of the HP's I've seen in Best Buy/Future Shop are backlit.

This is an old thread I know, but still unresolved. I can`t offer a solution, I can only add more confusion. From what I understand the 3000 Series are the only DV6`s that offer a backlit option. I have a DV6-2150us, while troubleshooting fingerprint sensor issues, I noticed an empty LIF connector/socket between the fingerprint sensor LIF connector/socket and the keyboard ZIF connector on the motherboard. Looking through a magnifying glass I could see the letters "BL KB 4pin FPC" beside the empty LIF connector/socket.
It`s been over a year since I first noticed this and in this time I have not had a DV6-3xxx backlit keyboard to test in the DV6-2150us. I still have the DV6-2150us and if I do happen upon a backlit keyboard I`ll post the results.
