Hi! I performed one of the harder recommendations in the NBR cooling guide![]()
I opened up my DV6 and boy, it's not the easiest laptop I've tinkered with.

I was wondering if I could have done better. I applied a small amount (about the size of a rice grain) of AS5 to the CPU, northbridge (or southbridge?) and GPU directly. These are marked red in the picture.
Note: If you notice there still traces of the old thermal paste around the GPU. Should I have cleaned off the old thermal paste completely? I was afraid my Isopropyl alcohol would damage the GPU board.
Here is the heatsink with the same markers for reference:

I threw away the northbridge (or southbridge?) thermal pad and replaced it with AS5. I retained the other pads since they are connected to some chips and capacitors. I played it safe since I wasn't sure if I could apply AS5 on them. Any idea? These are marked green in the picture.
So far, it's been 3 days since my Arctic Silver 5 application and at first I didn't notice any improvement. In the contrary, I noticed slightly higher temps which I can't deny that it worried me. But now, I'm getting slightly better temps (max CPU/GPU is 60c/70c).

That is the northbridge.
Maybe you need to do the copper mod.
