i'd go for the gen3
it has the 5650 which already support DX11 games
more RAM which is always good for Multi Tasking or editing
Chiclet Keyboard is better to type on ( well in my own reference )
other stuffs like the number pad, and Blue Ray is maybe more to your needs
i dont think a lot of people care about number pad these days
as for Blue Ray, well it's a 50:50, if you love watching blue ray in your laptop, then probably that is a minus, but im sure the 5650, 6gb RAM and the Island keyboard is more nicer to have -
Play with the two, and then decide. Both are fairly equal in their power, but it's going to come down to whether you like the keyboard, having a number pad, Blu-Ray, etc.
I was in a similar dilemma weeks ago. The one small but key thing that got me to the new dv6 model is that the audio outputs are to the side versus up in front on the old one. Since I use both hands to type, it made it a bit awkward having a cable bumping into the underside of my right forearm
DV6 Gen 2 (Expresso Black) or DV6 Gen 3 (Silver/Cream)
