Hello All,
I have a pavillion DV6 1334us with a bad mainboard ( 578376-001) and have access to a DV6 518431-001 and wanted to know if I could swap the boards.
The only difference I can see is they have a very different video chip. The original has the uma graphics and the swap has the radeon hd4650 graphics.

You will at very minimum need a new HSF. Likely new power supply.
I would check parts manuals to see if there are any other differing parts for dedicated gfx models. -
Thanks for the reply,
I was thinking that I would be unable to use the old HSF and would need to pick up another that matched the new MB, I was also thinking the CPU would need an upgrade.
The PS never occured to me but I can see where that would need a change also.
Where would I find the parts manuals for the MB? -
This looks like the right page, but the manual does not list your mobo. Maybe it will help?
Manuals for HP Pavilion dv6-1334us Entertainment Notebook PC | HP® Support
Edit - To me it doesn't look like the manual is any help. It is very hard to tell what will work with your laptop, but visually the two specific models you inquired about are very similar (Socket, plugs, ports). If it is cheap, I would give it a shot.
Also, you will probably need a 90 watt power supply, and yours is likely 65 watt if I remember correctly. It will work, but when put under load the CPU and maybe GPU will throttle (that's what my DV6 3143 and Envy 17 do) to not exceed the PSU limits. -
Bonham is exactly correct… besides the power supply and HSF you need to take a hard look at the board configurations including USB, HDMI, Ethernet, ect. to make sure that they match up to the base of your unit. You could end up with an open input/output space or worst case… a board that will not fit your original base due to an additional input/output connection.
Just doing a quick comparison of ebay photos for the two part numbers you provided, there does in fact appear to be a difference…. so you should double and triple check before you commit to the project.
Best, Dave -
No reason why it shouldn't fit with a new heatsink and PSU - but you may have to cut a hole for the firewire port.
