I have only had my dv6 a week, but i like to keep my notebooks running as cool as possible.
As far as i can see there is no way of accessing the fan, without taking the notebook to bits , there is no air intake above the fan like other notebooks , only 2 vents where you can see parts of the cooling system.
Now if i blow compressed air into these vents will the dust not just be blow all over the inside of the notebook, or will it just come out of the other vent.
Also i have read that you should secure the fan from running as not to damage it, but this is not possible without taking the notebook apart.
I can remove the hdd and memory covers without any problems, but i dont think this will give me access to the fan/cooling system.
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks.

HP's require to be pulled apart down to the board to properly clean the fans. They dont have CPU compartments in the bottom where you can just pop out.
The cooling system is always isolated from the rest of the notebook. If you blow air in the intake, it will completely come out of the exhaust vent.
Ive heard people say use a toothpick to stop the fan blades from spinning too fast. I shoot 70psi of air to my fans every month and i dont think it spins it any faster than regular use. I think its just to get the dust off the blades easier. -

That is good news , but can i stop the fan from spinning before i clean the cooling system, can i get a toothpick in.

I am mildly concerned with the cooling on my dual core dv6 as the bottom can get pretty hot. a Quad core in a dv6 can't be a great plan.
I also have pretty much just an intake on the back and exhaust vent on the left side of the laptop, no vents directly over the cooling.
DV6 Quad - Cooling system cleaning.
