So, I am currently looking at getting a new machine. I wanted to stay around 1000$, but in the case of the Envy 14, I may slip to 1200$.

My main question is this, what is the difference between the DV6 and the DV6se. I know the special edition has more config options and comes with a free upgrade to 6gb ram and better proc (ATM). But is there really a big difference between the DV6 and DV6se?

Also, does anyone have any pictures of a DV6 in Black Cherry?

as far as i know, dv6-se has more cheaper base configuration, or at least if you choose the same config and compare it to the dv6, your dv6-se will come a lot cheaper with the exact same specs ( and the Select Edition offer free 6gb RAM upgrade as well ! )

and the dv6-se, i believe, dont have the color options

well it depends on your budget, Envy are nice, but is a bit expensive if you want to get all the good specs

if you want something under 1000, may i suggest go for the dv6z-se

you can upgrade everything better and still have it under 1000 ( after rebate and coupon )

i got mine (dv6z-se) for $934, specs are on my sig

i missed out on coupon discount though, could have got it for under $900

Some parts of the dv6's are aluminum instead of plastic. I like my dv6t a lot. Also, I'm not sure if it was resolved or not, but some of the 5650's in the E14's run underclocked. After I had a dv4 a year back, I had sworn off HP, but this dv6t is really something else.

I purchased a DV6 from staples, but im going to be taking it back. The HDD makes loud noises when I first purchased it and if one thing fails within the return policy.... back it goes for me.

The reason I ask DV6t vs DV6tse is because I heard the SE's have a metal bottom while the DV6t has a plastic bottom. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm not sure the exact differences, but I've heard the dv6tse has much better build quality and has more aluminum instead of plastic, and that the dv6tse is much better than the dv6t. There is currently a $100 for the dv6tse so you can get really nice specs for under $1000. There have been some better coupons, though, so you may want to wait.

Personally, I don't think the nicer screen and reduced graphics performance of the Envy 14 is worth all the extra money, especially if you don't want to spend more than $1000. The dv6tse is a great option.

The bottom part is plastic and the top is a flimsy metal sheet for the dv6t se.

Also the dv6 ATI cards are under clocked when running on battery by default.

The DV6T is like a sandwich in that all the good parts are in the middle, the top and bottom are usually filler.

    Unless it's INNOUT

I have a Dv6z-se but I'm not aware that the top is a flimsy, the whole thing seems pretty sturdy to me though I've only had this computer for about a week now.

Im very interested in hearing about these as well. It seems though that neither the dv6t or the se version is sold in Australia?? Can anyone confirm that?
