Extremely frustrated with a DV6-2138CA laptop that I purchased from Best Buy.I have an external monitor connected to the SVGA port and it seems that when the audio is muted and the computer boots up the internal display blacks out leaving me with the extended desktop on the external monitor. There is no taskbar or desktop icons on the external display. The computer is set to extend the desktop to this monitor.

Why on earth is the built in display blacking out? Reinstalled the video drivers.

I have to say that both HP chat support and HP support by email is a total waste of time. They kept wanting me to install drivers for hardware that the laptop did not have or having me apply a BIOS update which in fact was an older version and the factory installed version can not be provided.

Discovered that the problem is that the LED back light is being turned off for some reason on some bootups when there is an external monitor connected via svga port. If I shine a light on the display I can see the desktop and the icons.

Me thinks this laptop is a big yellow lemon. Not even 4 weeks and its failing. Sigh.
