I just purchased a new DV6-3050US and have a few general questions.thats not answered on the purchase website(newegg) or HPs website.also I called HP directly asking these questions and after being put on hold for 17 mins was told that there not sure about any of my questions and would need to contact tech support, then tech support would not talk to me without a serial number and registered product id.
actual specs: Newegg.com - HP Pavilion DV6-3050US NoteBook AMD Phenom II Quad-Core N930(2.0GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 640GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
1:what is the ram speed rated at? ie 1066,1300,1600
im guessing 1066 but since I havent recieved the laptop yet it would be nice to know?
2:does the HP operating system recovery disc allow a clean install of windows 7
and does the laptop come with one or does it need to be ordered seperate from HP?
I realize most of you wont know if a OS recovery disc comes with the laptop since it varies by seller.
3:if anyone has the specific notebook know of any heat issues, especially during extended hours of gaming?

thanks Prydeless for the reply,1333 is faster than I expected.also I found the review and guide by v3loc1ty2.0 so im just going to install a fresh copy of windows 7.its good to hear about minimal heat issues but I might buy a cooler just to be safe during gaming.

Thanks for the info. Really surprised to see 1333 RAM in this. I wonder if this varies. I'd be shocked if it's actually spec'ed for this model.
I was hoping you could expand on your gaming experience. There are some very disturbing posts on the HP forums regarding overheating on many of the DV6 models. People saying that even using a cooling pad, etc. they can't keep the machine from overheating and shutting off when gaming for 1 hour +.
I'm hoping that isn't the case on this particular one, but I haven't had the opportunity for a significant test yet. -
I play at 1080 on all the games I mentioned. BC2 DX9, all high, with AA, AF, Bloom, Ambient occlusion, and HBAO off and get 25 to 60 fps. Lately I've tried DX11, with a mix of medium and high and get 20 to 40 fps. Unless I missed anything, BC2's dx11 just uses some shadow effects so it's not much to be excited about. For SC2, I played with a mix of medium and high settings and got 25 to 40 fps. I got a guest key from my friend and only did some campaign before time ran out.
As far as temperatures, the CPU ranges from 74C-79C and the GPU from 76C-82C. Ambient temperature where is live is 32C-36C so I'm told my temps aren't as bad as they sound. Outside of gaming, my normal temps are 54C-60C on both CPU and GPU ranging from web browsing to watching videos. On idle it's gone as low as 49C on the CPU, but still 54C for the GPU. -
those temps are excellent.and I've too read the horror storys of hp laptops over heating.im still confident that a cooler will allow me to game for several hours(hopefully).and my ambient temps are never more than 77F.
