    Good evening ladies and gentlemen.

I just got my computer back from repairs yesterday.

One of the things that were switched in the repairs were the mainboard.
The thing is that I can't switch to the 6770 as I could prior to the repairs.
It was as easy as rightclick desktop -> configure switchable -> choose 6770.
However now I don't have that choice anymore.
It looks like the DV6-61XX where I can choose what performancelevel certain applications should run on.

This throws things on end for me as some apps like furmark, minecraft etc wont run.
I looked through bios to see if I by some odd chance might have the option for vga that were implemented for the DV6-61XX but there's nothing.
    (It has the F.1A bios)

I have tried with the ATI drivers that were included with the factory-image as well as with the 11.5b hotfix.

I include a screenshot from the mainboard tab from cpu-z here for your comparison.

Anyone of you that might have an idea on this one?
    Would be greatly appreciated.

    /Morrgan

    Thank you wittynorseman

However I already have that bios revision.
I even tried a "reflash" just to make sure.

It does not give the option in bios on this new mainboard. :(

So there is no option in the BIOS "System configuration" menu for "Switchable Graphics Mode?"

Please post a screen shot of the Catalyst Control Center - Switchable Graphics menu.

Seriously look for that because that needs to be changed from dynamic to fixed.

Another question: Do you know if you still have an AMD 6770 "physically"?
Check if it is in your device manager under display adapters, if it isn't there
you should check if the repair center put in the correct mainboard.

    First place I looked.
No luck, I don't have that choice in bios.
I will grab my camera and post images when I get home from work.

    wittynorseman:
Good advice, however I have already done the reinstall. (both full and minimal)
I have also installed the sp53025.exe

    zuvieltext:
The 6770 is visible in the devicemanager. (Although it simply says 6700 series)

The performance is there when I set it to use "high performance" in the switchable options.
    Tried with Fallout New Vegas.
Just to compare I set it to low to see the difference in perfomance (if any) and on the Intel card it stutters horribly when I start New Vegas.

Thanks for all the advices so far and please if you have any other ideas or if you heard anything similar please post here.

    Another option:

Downgrade the BIOS, then upgrade it back to F.1A, that may fix the BIOS option.

As I said earlier I upload some images from bios, cpu-z, devicemanager and what happens when an opengl app tries to run.
I also include an image of how it looked/worked prior to the mainboard exchange.

The last image is how I used to be able to switch between the graphics adapters. The one just above is how I get it now.

    Yes.
I did try to flash using both the F.06 (sp52412) and the F.14 (sp53216) versions of bios.
Both of them fails and the "HP flash boot" asks me to continue startup.
So the only one that I'm able to use is the F.1A.

One of the drive partitions is preventing the downgrade. I can't remember which one.

    Hi

I am having the exact same problem with my dv6-6017tx. Its a 60xx series and not a 61xx series. So it had fixed switchable graphics earlier. But then the laptop died on me. It went for repairs and came back with a 61xx type mainboard which has the newer 1 GB 6770 GDDR5 GPU which has dynamic switchable graphics. So now even I cant play any games as it never seems to switch to AMD GPU. I also have the F.1A BIOS but I dont get the switchable graphics option to change it between fixed and dynamic. This sucks!

If I'm not mistaken the F.1A BIOS update is the exact same for both 60xx and 61xx series. Same filename, release date and size. But I think the BIOS shows the switchable graphics option depending on model name. So if your model name is 60xx it wont show you option to change between fixed and dynamic. If your model no is 61xx then it will show.

So what will people like us do who have model no 60xx but a new 61xx mainboard which has the new dynamic switching pain!!!

So pissed off. I spent so much on this laptop!

A small update here. I got in touch with HP and they told me that I have been given wrong mainboard (61xx type with Bus Alive/Chip Off 6770M). They will now order the original 60xx type mainboard with manual switching type of 6770M. There was a confusion with the spare part nos of the 2 mainboards.

I think the OP should also contact HP in his country. I will update this thread once my issue is resolved!!
