Im on my second unit from best buy as the first one had a really squeeky spacebar but on the second one i noticed that on the sides of the 1080p screen it seems to have trouble displaying dark black. Like screen burn.

Its makes dark black look faded and dark greyish. Its only along the bezel of the screen and only effects a minimal amount of the screen like less than half a cm of the edge of the screen. It seems to have the issue on both sides but the left side is a little bit more prominent than the right. It has no problem displaying colors nice and bright and vibrant but when things like the black windows loading screen, black wallpapers, or really dark scenes in a full screen movie does it become seen. I found in a VERY bright environment like bestbuy it is hard to notice the issue but in a low light environment with the screen brightness on highest it does become VERY noticable.

Ive asked a few friends to look at the screen to see if they could notice anything wrong with it and none of them picked it up as a issue untill i pointed it out to them. But soon as i pointed it out they clearly saw it. But the fact that they didnt even notice it right away makes me believe its not that big of a deal to the majority of people and the fact that this is my second unit so ive been purposly looking for problems and defects and could be me just being really anal.. lol.. Or that the best buy up here in canada got a bad batch of screens. Cause my last sony laptop didnt have this issue but it did have a way lower resolution and poorer view angle. So..

I was wondering if this if normal on these 1080P screens?

I returned the first unit i had with the squeaky space bar right away and am not sure if it had the same issue as this one, but the demo display model at my local bestbuy where i purchased this one seems to have the same screen issue. They dont have anymore in stock to look at tho so I was hoping that some other owners of the DV6-61XX with the full matte 1080P screen could shed some light on this issue and their experience with it as being normal or a actual screen problem with myn....

Heres a pic of the issue. [IMG]
    Thanks in advance...

Keep it for a few days. The same was with my iPad 2 but it went away in a few days. I read it was the backlight seal glue still setting. Idk if that is true, but it may be worth waiting a few days. It is definately backlight bleed.

    Edit: what browser/theme is that?

It's called light bleed. Very common on everything with screens. Even my external monitors have it. Doesn't bother me at all unless you're viewing something entirely black.

cool guys. thanks for the responses.

I figured it was some sort of light bleed. I just wanted to make sure it was normal for this laptop...

BTW the theme is BLOOMIND FT DeepDark 2 for firefox 4 :)

I don't see anything - are you talking about the white light that's coming out of the left side of the monitor?

Yeah. How on the edge there it seems to have trouble displaying blacks like there it light shining through. As the others have mentioned it makes sence that it's light bleed. I just wanted to know if it was normal on these 1080p screens and if I should return it for another one or if it will be like that on all of them.

You shouldn't have to deal with it. It isn't normal. But it may go away in a few days

Even if every single dv6 had it, it still wouldn't be ok. But honestly, I wouldn't care too much.

Hmmm interesting. I kinda figured that it wasn't normal for screens as my Sony doesn't do this. I really like everything about this laptop. This issue is not a huge deal just kinda annoying in fact I bet that the average user won't even notice it. I just wanted to see if it would be worth the hassle of taking the chance that the replacement would be the same.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm hoping to hear from someone that has this laptop with out the light bleed and a perfect screen.

I'd hazard to guess that every modern notebook display has backlight bleed to some extent (maybe except the super premium ones)... It just depends on how severe it is.

I don't see any light bleed on mine even on dark room.

Here's a picture I took of the screen does not show any bleeding on the sides.

I just received my computer today.

That is true that the scree is magnificent. Hey criskoe I would suggest exchanging it or ordering through HP.

Ok Here's the picture. I put it on High Contrast so everything was black.

Also had to put my camera in the mode of when it takes fireworks pictures as the others seemed to make the screen look bright when it is dark.

    *UPDATE*

Well I finally got this resolved but it took forever. I went back to bestbuy to see about exchanging for a new laptop with a perfect screen and the manager was super nice and helpful surprisingly. They didnt have any instock but would try and get one transfered from another store. She got the laptop in but unfortunatly the laptop actually suffered from light bleed not just around the bezel but blotches all over the screen really bad. So she said that she would try to get another one but was pretty sure that she wouldnt be able too.

So in the mean time I decided to call hp and see if there would be anything they could do for me. After being on the phone for 2 hours with HP's customer support I was convinced by a agent that i should sent them the laptop and they would put a new perfect screen in. So i sent it off.

2 weeks latter i got my laptop back (promised 5 days) :( . super excited tho. Only to be soo shocked that my laptop had a even worse screen now. The whole bottom of the screen had over 3 inches of light bleed really bad.. And to top it off.. the laptop wasnt put back together properly and had gaps all over the body in the seams and the keyboard itself was just floating on the laptop and wasnt in place.

I called hp only to be read a script by a rude manager about how if i did any damage i would have to pay blah blah blah. And basicly i would have to send it away again for repair or to return it to best buy... Man they must have monkeys for repair techs.. Do they not check to make sure a new part actually works before they sent it out again?

Anyways i called best buy back and pled my case with her and explained everything that happened and even though i was past my 30 return policy she would still help me out. :) unfortunatly the warehouse was out of stock and i would have to wait untill they got more in stock. 2 weeks latter one finally came in. I went into the store with low hopes only to leave the store so happy and a laptop finally all prefect including the screen :)

    Now for some interesting info.

All of the 3 laptops that had the light bleed issues were the AUO 15.6 FHD V3 screens in it.

And my new with the perfect screen has the LG LP156WF1-TLF3.

I wonder if there was a bad batch of AUO screens for the first shipment here in canada? or if the LG screens just have better quality control.

Oh well Im happy now. :)

Thank you to everyone that told me not to settle with it..

How do you tell what panel you have?

Nevermind, I have the AUO... I have slight bleed but not a big enough problem to send it back and maybe even get a worse one

Dam man that sucks. The first one i had with light bleed was minimal and there was a moment that i really wished that i had just let it go cause the 2 that i recieved were far worse including the brand new screen put in by HP repair. the whole ordeal took me over a month to get one with a perfect screen and i am very happy now. would i go through it all over again.. Well if it was very minimal then prolly not but if it was definatly noticable then yes i would cause having a perfect screen with no light bleed is beautiful. :)

Maybe my theory of the AUO quality controll is right, cause my LG is perfect!
