So I just got my DV6 yesterday and installed Skyrim. My laptop has the i7-3610, GT 650m 2 GB and the 32 GB mSSD. I decided to test out skyrim today and this is what I got when the game started:

I hear the sounds just fine and the game starts but the video gets stuck in the above screenshot, I can look around but that's it.

Anyways, I'm a laptop noob and I'm not sure what to do. Anybody know where I can get a driver for the GPU? (A link would be nice but whatever) This is currently the only game I have downloaded so I can't tell if this is a problem with all my game, I'll install Bad Company 2 and Fallout New Vegas next and check but that could take a while.

Either reinstall Skyrim or, from your desktop, right click and go to Nvidia's discrete graphics settings. Choose the skyrim executable file to run on the Nvidia card. Hit apply. Now try running it again.

Was playing around with the settings and the same weird graphics thing happened but for some reason skyrim closed without me touching anything...

Neither HP nor nVidia have any drivers out so I guess it's a waiting game. I'll try other games and post back my whether they work or not.

Right so on Friday I was away watching Roger Waters perform The Wall Live and didn't play with the computer, today I get home turn on the computer and Steam starts downloading a bit over 1 GB for Skyrim without prompting. After the download completes I start up the game to see if the problem was fixed and as it turns out it was. Minor crisis averted people the only thing that sucks is that I won't be able to play until monday cause I'm going to be busy and still have a bunch of configuration to do on the new laptop.
