Does anyone know if the DV6000's can support more than 2GB of ram?! I currently have 2GB (upgraded from 1GB) and I'd like to upgrade to 4GB if possible. However, according to the CRUCIAL site (where I bought my last RAM upgrade) they only carry up to 2GB for my DV6130... Maybe they just don't carry anything higher?! I was sure that these laptops could support more than 2GB. Anyway, any clarification would be helpful and appreciated! Thanks.

Max is 4 GB, make sure you have one of the later BIOS updates.
-
Early models of dv6000 only supported 2gb RAM , after you do the BIOS update it will definately be able to take up to 4gb.
Another user here tried to put 4gb ram and it just kept crashing. It was fixed after he did the BIOS update -
I'm assuming I'd need 4 sticks of 1GB each too... as far as I've been able to tell the 2GB sticks are relatively new since Vista was released. -
You need 2 sticks of 2 GB. The laptop only has 2 slots for RAM.
-
lol Your laptop only has 2 RAM slots.
Go buy your RAM first, stick them both in 2x2gb. If it gives you errors or it wont boot up or detect it then your BIOS is too old and needs updating from the HP website. -
I thought all dv6000t models were basically the same with different components and software. I have the dv6700 and I am running 3GB of RAM. If you want 4GB you'd need Vista 64-bit.

Early models of dv6000 only supported up to 2gb RAM max. You needed a BIOS update to unlock it to 4gb RAM support.

Just go to the HP Support website and download the most recent BIOS. It should install itself. You'll want a version higher than f.25 (f.29 is current).
Unless you're running 64-bit Windows Vista, I would recommend only upgrading to 3GB, as the system won't recognize any more than that. This will also save you some money -- just replace one of your 1GB sticks with a new 2GB, and you're set.
Crucial makes 2GB sticks, but you'll have to search the site for them, as they won't come up on the upgrade advisor. Search for a 2GB DDR2 667 or PC2 5300 stick. Also check www.newegg.com, as their prices (even on Crucial RAM) are more competitive. -
brianstretch Notebook Virtuoso
You'll want a matched pair of 2GB sticks for dual channel memory support, even if you don't install 64-bit Vista. RAM's cheap, don't worry about a little waste if you stick with 32-bit.
I put two 2GB Crucial DDR2-667's in my dv9208nr. Highly recommended. -
I just ordered 2x2GB sticks... I may up-grade to 64-bit vista in the future anyway (as soon as SP1 is released... or until I feel comfortable making the switch). That way, I'll have 4 full GB's ready to go for Vista. I'll let you know how it goes... I ordered from Newegg... should be here quick

2x2gb is a good choice.
When you recieve them, insert them both in. If everything boots up to windows fine, then all is well and you have nothing to worry about.
If it wont boot up or give you BSOD's and errors then you will need to update your BIOS to the latest one for it to support 4gb -
Does this hold true for the entire HP/Compaq 6000 series?
I have a Presario V6305NR and I just upgraded from 2x512 to only 2x1G instead of 2X2GB because both the system report and chat support indicated that 2GB was the max supported. I'll be really PO'd if all I needed was a Flash to support 4GB. -
I dont have a definate answer to that but im sure someone here can shed some light.
You can always try and just refund the RAM if it doesnt work
Does the latest version of v6000 support up to 4gb? -
-
I have the most recent flash for my bios -11/07- and I'm still showing a max supportable of 2GB so I guess it doesn't apply to my particular model.
-
I installed 2x2GB sticks and it showed 2.99GB... I did a BIOS flash anyway (latest from the hp site) and it didn't change a thing. Still says 2.99Gb... I probably didn't need to flash the bios... but so far everything is fine.

Assuming you're in Vista, from Start tab GoTo 'Help and Support'. At the top you'll see a 'System Information' shortcut. It has a lot of good info that is otherwise undisclosed on the regular Vista system screen and I find it tends to be more useful. There are probably plenty of free programs that do the same thing. Also I'm not sure, but I think this information comes from "polling" the BIOS and the registry for device names, settings, and specs.
I haven't actually played with the BIOS screen at startup, but you may be able to get the same info there as well if you're familiar. If you're not familiar, be very careful -it's not exactly easy to make disabling system changes, but it is possible. -
With Calistoga 945PM (dv6187) having the latest F.29 bios can i install 2x2GB modules?
I have already 2x1GB Transcend Powerchips 5-5-5-15@4-4-4-12@modified spd
and if 2x2GB are ok i will modify them to @4-4-4-12 (G.Skill i am thinking or Transcend again) or 3-3-3-9 (since they are rated to 800).
And at Intel Specs i can see that if installing 4GB 965 & 945 will drop memory from 667 to 533. Is that true? -
Ok i installed 2x2GB and system can see 3GB max
(both XP-32 bit & Linux 64-bit) so it is a chipset limitation,
though bios reports 4096MB. They are running @ 4-4-4-12 @ 667MHz.
Module one by one can run at 4-3-3-9 but not on dual channel.
Interesting is that when using one module i have better latency that with
two. Same happened with 2x1GB modules so that might be the a crappy bios implementation.... -
Pump this because of what i read on first posts.
P945PM cannot support 4GB of ram only 3GB.
This is have nothing to do with bios although latest
is highly recommended recognize 4GB correctly and not
have any issues with 2x2GB sticks.
