Hey folks! I tried a quick search on this problem, but I couldn't find anything. Apologies if I overlooked it.

Anyways, today I turned on my dv6245ca (dv6000) HP laptop, and after I while, I notice that the battery icon in the tray is slowing going down. Apparently I'm running on battery power even though I'm plugged into the wall. Then, I hear a beeping sound, and it's coming from the AC adapter (rectangle box thing....AC Adapter, right?). The point where it plugs into the laptop on the right hand side has a blue light and is lit when working. There's no light! Does this mean I need a new adapter?

I do have a Best Buy Performance and Service Plan, and I am about to use it. My HP warranty ran out on the 5th. I've already chatted with an HP guy on their site, and he suggested going to Best Buy. Is this the only solution?

Yep... I'd say something happened with the electricity (a surge maybe) in your home that fried your adapter. I'd consider myself lucky. Better that it was your adapter and not your laptop!!! I'd take it in for replacement if you got the service plan. I, myself will never ever ever by another service plan from Best Buy ever again!!!! (did I mention EVER). I would also recommend investing in a good surge protector. This should curve events like this happening to you again. :)

Thanks man! May I enquire as to why you'll never get a Best Buy service plan?

Yes you may. Many years ago, I bought my very first laptop from Best Buy. Due to the fact I lived in a College town and it was back to school season, They were fresh out of the brand that I wanted. They sold me the display model with a 15% discount and a 2-year service plan. The salesman assured me of what would be covered (Specifically, the screen). The Lappy worked fine for 14 months. Then, the bottom 2/3 of the screen stopped working. I mean you could literally draw a straight horizontal line across the screen, where the top third worked and the bottom two thirds were black. The screen was not cracked in any way. So, I went to Best Buy to PURCHASE ANOTHER LAPTOP and take my current one in for repair so I could sell or give it away. Turns out, they say that my plan would not cover the $700 cost of repairing the screen because it seemes to be abuse. I talked to the repair center directly and one guy said that whenever they get a laptop in with dead pixels like mine, they automatically deem it as abuse. Outraged, I spoke with Best Buy's corporate office, and the guy told me to NOT get the repair and to take it in to an independent HP certified technician. If I could get a letter head note from the repair guy stating that the damage was NOT due to abuse, then they would pay for the repair. I agreed. Except when I went to Best Buy to get my Laptop, they wanted me to pay $100 for the labor of opening my machine and determining that my plan did not cover the cost!!! This is when I lost all sense of professionalism and snapped on the Manager at the store. I still did not get the laptop fixed.

2 years later, I bought an mp3 player from Best Buy and purchase a service plan that they said would cover accidents. Well, My play was damaged by accident and they said my plan would not cover it. This time, the manager (a different and nicer guy) told me the best that he could do was refund the cost of the plan I purchased and give me a 15% discount toward another player.

So, I just thought it best not to touch their so-called service plans again. There are anti Best Buy web sites set up that tells far worse horror stories from doing business with them. I still shop there, but only when I can't help it.
