Hey folks, I've got a DV6000 here that seems to have some sort of motherboard or HDD problem.

I load up an XP Pro installation and everything seems to work fine until it gets to "Setup is now loading Windows" at which point the installation just hangs. Native SATA is turned off. Tried it twice, too.

I've tried the installation with a Windows 7 Beta DVD as well, and the installation also hangs shortly after Windows finishes loading its files. I tried Windows 7 with native SATA turned on and off.

I'm not 100% sure that the HDD is ok as I don't have anything with which to test it, but the installation will get past this point in my E6400.

I'm not that familiar with HP computers, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious or if there's a hardware problem.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Most likely HD or an incompatibility.

Bad RAM? I've had that happen once installing Windows, just at the point where it was about to run Windows, it was bad RAM. Would you happen to have two sticks in? Take one out and try. Then try the other.

Actually, pulling out random parts has led me to the conclusion that there is something wrong with the wifi card! It's an Intel 3945ABG and as long as I keep it out of the laptop, everything seems to work normally. Put it in and it hangs both in Windows boot and installation.

Will try a different wifi card this weekend.

Dont forget about the HP whitelist you need a 3945 or a 4965 from another HP laptop not just any card.

I thought the BIOS whitelist was only for a non centrino card eg. Broadcom, Atheros

HP doesnt actually make the mini pci cards.

Yeah, I just figured this out the hard way. Is there any possible way to get around this?

The 3945 from the HP seems to work fine in my Dell D620 (as in it will load Windows, connect to a wireless network, and access the Internet). Is it pretty certain in that case that the HP motherboard is screwed up?

One of the HP defects is wireless issues. Check the model # isnt part of the defect list. Check the sticky for the list

Not on there. Terrible. No easy fixes despite being a known problem? I suppose it's time for a new board then...
