When i bought my hp pavilion dv6527ea it came preinstalled with vista so naturally after a few months i downgraded to vista and found all the drivers except for one....
    The ethernet driver
I have pretty much installed every driver i have found remotely linked to my laptop and i cant get it to work
If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great

    Thanks

Whos the manufacturer for the ethernet controller?

You have checked the HP website and tried downloading drivers for different models there right?

on the bottom of your laptop, there should be a model number, for example I have a dv6700, but the exact model # is dv6772nr. Once you find the model # go to hp.com and click on support and drivers, and then type the model # in. It should show you all the drivers available.

Go to Device Manager and look in there for the Network Adapter. There should at least be two, the LAN and the wireless.

How about in System Information in Start, Accesories, System Tools. Look under Components, Network in there. Any clues in there?

This is what it looks like, i dont know what the top network adapter is (1394 net adapter but it doesnt seem to do much), then the wireless and then the ethernet which has been called Nvidia because of the vista drivers, if i uninstalled it would say Ethernet

that's for windows vista though, OP is looking for xp drivers.

Edit: have you tried windows update? That sometimes works.

Try HP update or windows update as a final resort for looking for missing drivers

The Nvidia Ethernet driver is part of the "NForce" chipset driver package. Now you just just need to figure out which version you have.

You have a Broadcom wireless right? I guess you might have tried to uninstall from device Manager and reboot, stuff like that.
