Hey gang,
***EDIT*** Just realized my mistake in the subject, this is on a zv6000....... sorry!
I just stumbled into this forum doing a little research on an issue I am having with a zv6000 (EC373UA). I'm new here, but certainly not a noob, having spent the last 6 years rebuilding, repairing, and tinkering with laptops as a hobby.
I cannot solve a power issue I have with this laptop. As I normally work on Gateways, I am not as familiar with the issues that are common on this model. When the AC adapter is plugged in, the charge light blinks slowly, which normally means the battery is toast, from my experience. When I take out the battery, the charge light blinks extremely fast, and you can hear a clicking noise that coincides with each flash of the charge light.
The board will not power up. When the power button is pressed, the charge light goes out for 1-2 seconds, then resumes blinking. No fans, no video, and the power on light doesn't even flicker. Nada.
Here's what I've done to try and isolate the issue:
Swapped out all RAM with known good sticks.
Replaced CMOS battery.
Disassembled the entire unit down to the bare board. The board no longer makes the 'click' noise with the adapter plugged in at this point, but this is because the ribbon cable connecting the mobo to the LED panel is disconnected.
Board does not power up in a bare state with all components removed (CPU, RAM, etc.)
Board does not power up with CPU and heatsink only.
AC adapter voltage checks fine. Battery has too low a charge to see if board will power up with it alone.
Close up visual inspection of the board revealed no damaged components, no burnt chips, oe discoloration anywhere.
Any ideas? The DC jack doesn't appear to be loose at all, and the solder points look good. Might it be an issue within the jack? Is it common on this model? If so, I may replace it anyway, just looking to see what others have run into with this model.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks to all who take the time to read and respond!

Any thunderstorms been around your house lately with your laptop connected to the power outlet?

Nope. There is a thread with 4-5 other zv6000 owners on techrepublic with the exact same issue, but there is no solution I've seen...........
