My DV6565en still has overheating issues and sometimes turns itself off. But lateley there was a problem to turn it back on, even after cooling down.

Usually nothing happened after pressing power button, except sometimes magically it did turn on. After reading a lot of forums i discovered a trick, that under certain, but still unknown circumstances it is still possible to turn system on by pressing quick launch button next to the power button. Yet it didn't work every time, I became suspicious about the power button itself and connection cables.

    SOLUTION:

Cut off as little as you can off each end of ZIF connection cables.
    Or simply replace them.

You can download disassembly instructions at HP site.
Or follow these steps at your own risk:

    1. Remove 3 screws under battery for switch cover above keyboard.
    2. Remove 3 keyboard screws (marked with keyboard icon).
    3. Lift the switch cover.
    4. Disconnect all the wires. (search for video how to release ZIF cables)
    5. Lift the keyboard (no need to disconnect).
    6. Remove both ZIF cables. Connectors to the motherboard have no locks.
    7. Cut a little bit off of both ends of each cable.
    8. Reassemble.

I can't guarantee that this will help you.
But if the quick launch button trick works for you this might certainly help.

That an old laptop, I have the dv6700 and I need to clean the vents every 6 months. Have you cleaned your vents? If you have not be sure to do that the fan assembly has 3 screws and you need to disassemble your pavillion more but if you have not cleaned them, you will see a significant heat drop. You can also change the thermal paste with arctic silver MY CPU has an average of 45°C and the fan barely turns on.
