I use this laptop a lot for google talk, but the person on the other end always has to crank up their volume to hear me (even when my mic is at 100%), and when they do, they say there's tons of static. Anyone know of a fix?

Make sure that mic enhancements are TURNED OFF. Mine came from HP with the Karaoke setting set to ON. Therefore, the mic was filtering human voice out of every input. I too was compensating with volume and gain boost to the point of harsh distortion until I found the mic settings were all wrong for voice communication.
