So I have my Pav 6000t for about two months now and it works great; until recently that is. Everytime I am putting in any cd, my laptop does not ready it. I do an explore and it doesn't even see that drive at all. I have no idea waht to do. With school just starting I really need it to work. Any ideas to a cure??

While I was using it over the summer, I played a couple of different games. I do leave the cd's in the drive when I shut it down, or hibernate. Does this hurt my notebook??

    Thanks for all you help,

    Dan

I have the same problem with my dv5000 series laptop.
Out of the blue one day I go in to use the DVD drive and it does not show up in Explorer.
The drive spins up when a DVD is inserted, and the read light comes on, but no indication of its existence in Windows.
There is no entry in the Hardware config for the drive and the Add Hardware wizard does not detect it.

    Any ideas?

Yes I'm starting to wonder if it's a hardware issue...

How do you take the drive out? Is it easily removable?

If not, looks like I'm going to be glad I took out that extended warranty. I bought it 14 months ago...

Leaving the CD in the drive will not hurt it. Try deleting the ide drivers. Windows will install them when rebooted.

I have a dv6000z and I just took it apart recently. It is actually pretty easy to take out the CD-ROM.

First, turn off your laptop and take the battery out. If you look underneath your laptop you will notice the symbol of a CD in the middle of the laptop. There will be a screw right by the symbol of the CD, unscrew this. Once you have taken the screw out get a paperclip and put it in the hole to eject your CD player, and simply pull it out. If it is just a connection issue then maybe disconnecting and reconnecting will fix it, but who knows.

If you have more questions let me know. Below is a hyperlink for where you can download the pdf manual for your laptop.

If you're not experienced with laptops or computer hardware in general don't go too far on disassembling the laptop because you don't want to void the warranty.
