In my current search for a laptop, I have arrived at a dilemma.

Keep the DV6253cl which I have now or get a custom configured DV6000t

Here are the specs for each:

    DV6000t Custom
    Core2Duo T5300
    256MB Go 7400
    120GB SATA 5400
    2GB 667Mhz DDR2
    Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
    Lightscribe
    Vista Premium
    12 cell
    15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen
    Webcam and Mic
    $1,235

    DV6253cl (current)
    AMD Dual-Core TL-52
    Go 6150
    120GB SATA 5400
    2GB 667Mhz DDR2
    Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
    NO Lightscribe
    Vista Premium
    6 cell
    15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen
    Webcam and Mic
    $1,000

    My questions:
Is the approx. $250 more for the DV6000t worth it?

Which can I expect to have slower battery consumption?
Note: Even though the DV6000t comes with a more efficient processor and a 12 cell battery, it also comes with a more power hungry GPU and I believe is more higher end than the AMD. My current DV6253cl uses up its 6 cell battery in 2 hours on the lowest settings.

Does the DV6000t make a high-pitched noise I heard about on this forum or has it been addressed by HP?

Any other input on anything else I should know or input on similar laptops is much appreciated.

"Is the approx. $250 more for the DV6000t worth it?"

Yep, just look at the processor & GPU difference. The Intel system has a core 2 duo PLUS the go 7400, which is a nice midrange card.

The second AMD system is not as nice because AMD mobile processors aren't as great as Intel, plus the Go 6150 is only an integrated graphics solution if i remember right.

As far as battery life, I have heard that people with the 12 cell get over 6 hours of life on a charge (not sure how true it is) but keep in mind the 12 cell sticks out of the bottom of the notebook.

    I'd go with the dv6000t :)

Just when I was about to place my order on the custom built dv6000t, I saw the dv6358se here http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ategoryId=pcmcat103700050021&id=1174092316449 This notebook has almost the same exact config and $10 cheaper but 3 things.
    Pros:
-Better more rare silver color (special edition)
-40GB more hard disk, and the same SATA 5400RPM
    Con:
    -Intel GMA 950.

If only the graphics card was the Go7400. What should I do? Can I get the notebook but with a better graphics card?

If you can wait a few days when Santa Rosa comes out, the price for the current version you want will probably go down and/or if you want a most recent intel chip then worth the wait in my opinion.

How long till Santa Rosa comes out? The problem is that I only have until 5/27 to return my current laptop and I don't wanna be laptop-less. Do you think the prices will go down right away and by how much?

i used to own a dv2000 with the tl-50 and the go6150 .. it wasn't to bad, but the gaming with the go6150 left something to be desired.. it wasn't putting out enough like I would have wanted it to .. Also the processor is underpowered. I mean I read it in reviews, but damn I saw it was true when I actually started to decode dvd's, play games, and just move 1 gig or 512 mb files from drive to the external....
So I would say get the core2duo,go7400,and 2 gb of ram(which u can upgrade 1gb of ram to @ newegg for 100bucks)
    I did.. I'm much happier.

I'll be waiting till May 9th to make the purchase.

    This is my current config.

    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5300(1.73GHz/2MB L2Cache)
    2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
    15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam

I just hope that I will still be able to custom config this and purchase it from costco.com when Santa Rosa is out. And I hope the price drops a couple hundred bucks.

I can get a T5600 for $48 more. Will that be worth it and make a noticeable difference? Is the T5600 more likely to make the whining noise over the T5300.
